Leaking starter fluid!!!
I have a 97 xj6 with an oil leak that appears to be from an o-ring on a galley plug behind the adapter plate for the trans.
I plan on tackling this job but want to make sure I have all the required parts before I start. The diagrams I can see show little of the back end. Is this oil galley threaded or do I have to punch it out and replace? Am I barking up the correct tree? Any help help would be appreciated.

The gallery plugs are threaded, one in the rear, as you mentioned, one in the front, under the timing cover.
Part # EAC2494. Look like an allen key for R&R.
I have not heard of them leaking, but anything is possible I suppose.
Most AJ16 oil leaks are from the top, and run down and appear to be from somewhere else. The "D" seals, part of the camcover gasket assembly are notorious.

A leak from that plug seems to be rare but has been known.

Thanks guys that was exactly what I was looking for! I already changed a lot of the parts that was listed in that thread including the oil pressure sensor, the gasket I ordered had integrated "D" seals to boot and still have the same problem... I guess it is time to get ready to remove the trans and go for the o-ring. Parts are ordered and should be here in about a week. Ill post a pic of the back with the plug when I get to swapping it. As always thanks for the help.

Figured I’d update. I got the tranny, and adapter plate out today. The galley plug is threaded and does not have an Allen key. It was getting dark and I didn’t have the right bolt for the plug so I called it. Still not too sure how the thing comes out yet. Hopeing to hit it again in the next few days.
as promised below is a pic of the plug.
Here is the leaking galley plug.

Also, is there anyway to get there without disconnecting the transmission?
