Low Oil Pressure Gauge and warning low oil light issue ! Help me please !
Dear Jaguar friends,
i would need you help with my problem.
Low Oil Pressure Gauge and warning low oil light issue
I bought a 1996 Jaguar XJ6.
While driving it home i stopped at a red traffic light and the Oil pressure meter dropped to zero and the low pressure lamp went on. Traffic light became green and i continued driving and the meter went back to N normal and the light went off .. I stopped at a gas station checked the oil levels but the oil seemed to be just fine.
What is the problem ? Can someone tell me ?
Is it a bad engine oil pressure sender / switch ?
do i have to go to a mechanic or can i fix it myself ? how can i replace it, instructions ?
thank you in advance for your help ...

Low Oil Pressure Gauge and warning low oil light
Dear friends,
i hope that someone can help me.
i bought a Jaguar XJ6 1996 yesterday.
Driving it back home i stopped at a red traffic light and the Oil Pressure meter went to 0/low and the low oil light illuminated.
I panicked ! Then the traffic light went green and i started driving and the Oil pressure mater went back to the middle N normal and the low oil light went off !
Does someone have an idea what the problem could be ?
Could this be a bad Engine Oil Pressure Switch Sender Sensor ?
How to replace it myself ?
please advise.
thanks in advance.

The pressure sender is directly aft of the oil filter assembly as you access it from the bottom . Full of hot oil .Clean the connector first ? See attached Technical Service Bulletin PDF file below

Hi dmukic,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
I have merged your two posts on the same topic into one thread. In the future, please do not start multiple threads on the same topic.
You've already received excellent replies. The most common cause of the low oil pressure warning and low gauge reading are oil contamination of the electrical connector for the oil pressure sender/transducer; oil contamination of the sender threads (the sender is a one-wire unit and its ground path is through the engine block); or failure of the sender itself.
Please visit the New Member Area - Intro A Must and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome, and if you get a chance, post some photos of your new Jag for the rest of us to enjoy.
Cheers!

Hi sadlerboy,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
As I mentioned in post #5, "The most common cause of the low oil pressure warning and low gauge reading are oil contamination of the electrical connector for the oil pressure sender/transducer; oil contamination of the sender threads (the sender is a one-wire unit and its ground path is through the engine block); or failure of the sender itself." The sender threads into the left side of the cylinder block near the oil filter. On the X300 it is relatively easy to access, especially while performing an oil change with the oil filter removed. Try cleaning the threads on the sender and in the port in the engine block with zero-residue electronic cleaner (available at most auto parts stores), and clean the electrical connectors on the sender and the wiring harness. Allow to dry and reassemble.
Another thing that may have already been mentioned in this thread is to be sure you use the correct viscosity oil. I personally recommend using the heaviest viscosity suitable for your climate. The use of 0W- oils can contribute to low oil pressure readings. Here's a TSB with Jaguar's revised oil recommendation charts depending on your climate:
Jaguar TSB 12-58 Engine Oil Viscosity
Also, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
