i would take the belt off the snout of the sc in order to spin the pulley freely. then take the pulley on the snout of the sc and turn in slowly, direction dont matter, in order to feel when the pulley engages the gears inside. you can feel when the gears engage as the rotors will spin, if there is excessive play, you can turn pulley a fair amount without engaging the gears, the sc coupler is bad. this will cause the sc to rattle alot when it is running sounding like it is bad. if it is a bearing no problem, they are cheap and not as bad as it seems. if snout bearing is bad just remove snout and have it rebuilt at any machine shop, you only need to remove sc if rear bearings are bad. I have spare sc should you need one, but really think it is just the coupler and this is a 20.00 dollar part.

remember you only need to remove the snout to change to coupler, dont waste your time by removing the whole sc from the car. Tell us more about your jag, how many miles on it and what are your plans for it. are you looking to cruise it or do want to get all the horses you can out of it? sounds like all you need to do is change out the cracked coils and valve cover gasket, gaskets for the coil wells and you got yourself one cool ride.
