Smile maintaining the Mass Airflow Sensor

What is the proper method for keeping the Mass Airflow Sensor in good working order? These are getting very scarce and expensive. Hate to loose the car just for the lack of one sensor in the system.

Thanks guys.

I'd say having a good clean air filter and making sure there are no unfiltered airleaks to the MAF....can't really think of anything else in the preventitive sense.

Some will say a bad or slow acting MAF can be cleaned using carb' cleaner but never had any luck personally, not to say it hasn't for anyone else.

At least here in the US, the solution for cleaning MAF sensors is... MAF sensor cleaner. I have had good results and immediate results on at least one cleaning of an X-300 MAF. I u sued the whole can, and was careful to direct the spray with the extension tube driectly towards the hot wire sensor

Don't use carb cleaner. It contains oil that can foul the sensor... same thing goes for throttle body cleaner.

MAF cleaner will work, and so will contact cleaner. I prefer the latter.

I read about taking out the sensor and housing and clean it with MAF cleaner. There are also some youtube videos on this.
