So wandering around loose under the bonnet of my 1997 XJ6 is this mystery plastic panel. It has two plastic clips at the top of the panel and the edges curve around to the sides.
Anyone have any clue what it is?

Also on the end of the positive cable of the battery is this weird end which I have never seen before and I do not understand how it is supposed to actually clamp to the battery post. Anyone have any clues about this?

The plastic trim sits over the end of the air box, and attaches to the front slam panel.
The battery terminal looks like some sort of quick release mechanism, but it is difficult to tell from the photo.
So what does a factory positive battery terminal end look like? Anyone have a photo of that? I will try to get a better photo of this setup here today. There are several wires that are bolted to the part of the terminal that wraps down around the side of the battery. so I assume on a factory setup there is some way of doing that as well.
