Hello:
I am looking at a '95 XJ6 (Vanden Plas trim level) with 90k for $4800.
Before I pay for a PPI, do you have a link or any list of things I should watch for and generally key points of failure?
What are the strong points of these things? How reliable are they?
...my experience has only been with early 70's E-Types where the main thing I recall was that my buddy needed to keep two at all times...one for parts, etc.
Thanks very much!

Well I had a '95 base model for 10 years. Just sold it for $5200, 111,600 miles. Just bought an '02 XJ8 with 20500 miles to replace it.
The only thing that failed on that car in ten years was an A/C compressor and oil pressure sensor. Replaced quite a few stoplight, turn signal and taillight bulbs over the years. You might want to keep a few on hand. Had a couple of warped brake discs but I believe any car can have that problem.
These engines hold 8-1/2 quarts of oil so I usually went 5000 miles before changing it. I don't think it would use more than 1 quart of oil between changes.
I just hope my XJ8 is as reliable as the XJ6.
I have been a gearhead since I was 15 years old so I did my own oil, filter and antifreeze, changes. Also Hoses, belts and brake jobs.
Can't tell you what these kind of jobs cost at the dealers.

Thanks for that...it helps to know what you sold yours for!
I imagine this topic (people wanting to know if a given car is "good" or "bad") is a PIA for most Forum members...I am on a couple of other forums for specialty cars I own and I get tired of it myself...so I appreciate your info.
I will just take it to a good shop for PPI and go from there...
