OK, I started replacing the valve cover gasket....
As I stated,
I finally received all 26 gaskets for the valve cover or
Camshaft cover to be more specific.
Paint was flaking off, without effort.
After putting this in a parts washer (a friend at a dealership).
I noticed that the inside of the cover has a coating on it - that's new to me.
Now I am not complaining, but I have been messing with,
fixing and restoring cars from M-Benz to Chevy's.
But the quality of the cover casting, even after 29 years,
is not what I expected for a Jaguar. It should be higher - It is a Jaguar.
The valve cover I got from the wrecking yard was actually
corroded through after it was stripped down - once again new to me.
Does the inside have to be coated?
If so, with what?
Did it seal and help with oil run off?
I know people that have done that in their engine, but not a valve cover.
8 years on, I have a bubble or two showing up on the exterior of the powder-coated one. POR-15 looks same-as day of refinish, but to be fair, that car has just sat around the shop, being started occasionally to insure it still goes, whereas the powder-coated version has logged about 80k miles, give or take, since refurbishment.
