Paint codes, VIN etc.

Unless things are different over there, you should have a sticker on the door pillar which will show your paint code.
For info only, is this the same Jaguar that is in your signature, because the Vin checker I use tells me it is a 2004 car?

Yes it is...
A 1995 Daimler Six (should be similar to the 1995 VDP in the US).
I got the right results here:

but no paint codes...

I can't make that VIN work in any decoder....not that I tried all of them, mind you :-)
On older Jags the North American cars had two VINs: the original Jaguar VIN and the North American VIN....which follows mandated North American convention.
I suspect the same problem in this case.

The car is apparently either in Norway or Poland so would suspect that it has EU origin.
Odd that is seems to be missing the standard door pillar sticker.

I don't have the mysterious 'door pillar sticker'. All I have is this:
Pretty sure dad's is the same.
(PS. is there any reason to hide one's VIN on the internet, or am I just being paranoid?)

Correct, the car is in Poland.
It was sold/delivered in Switzerland and imported to Poland.
In Europe, all cars older than 4 years must have a full safety check every 2'nd year. One of the things being checked by the workshop is to verify the chassis/VIN code.
If there is a mix-up with the VIN number, I would think this should have been discovered before. All services and checks done on the car were carried out by Jaguar in Switzerland and i Poland.
I am currently in Norway, but I will have my brother in law check the VIN number on the car.
Is there a possibility that this car has a little different VIN number because it is a "Daimler"? I read somewhere that these cars could have some differences to the "standard" X300's.

While searching the archives for an alternate location for my paint and interior code (since my was mostly peeled off), I saw a link to a VIN decoder.
My VIN, SAJHX1741SC738261 says it's a Sovereign - is that anything special? If my 95 is green and tan, can someone share the color codes so I can order a new header?

What's special about it IMHO is that it exists at all in the USA market, as I wasn't aware of Jaguar marketing a Sovereign in the USA in 1996. It doesn't appear in my 1996 sales literature....although it may have been a mid-year offering or limited offering.
The typical USA lineup was the base XJ6 and the top-of-the-line VanDen Plas. On the occasions where the Sovereign has been offered in the USA it was placed between the base car and the VDP in terms of trim and equipment.

The "something special" you mention is pretty well right, insofar as the Sovereign is top spec in the jaguar range of x300's. It would usually have all the whistles and bells. I have two and they differ only in that one has a sun roof and the other doesn't. This would usually be a buyer option, in how well loaded you want the car to be. Otherwise they both have full leather interior, with full electric heated seats, with memory. Cruise control, air con, wood steering wheel and gear knob, lots more chrome on the outside, especially around the roof gutter, doors and windows. The badge on the boot lid should say Sovereign.
In the USA the buyer had very few choices as even the base XJ6 had sunroof, cruise control, memory seats, ABS, etc.
The only options on the base XJ6 were CD player, Harmon/Kardon sound system, traction control, heated seats, and block heater....and all but the block heater were standard issue on the VDP, XJR, and XJ12.

Hey Cato,
I have had another look around and have found this information which might help more, because it corresponds to the VIN you quoted initially.
X 300 VIN deciphering.
All the best,
Richard

Just to avoid any confusion this VIN decoder does not take into account the USA (and Canadian?) VIN convention!

Wonderful. I saw the post above by xjrguy (01-07-2011 02:07 PM) and would love if I could get similar info - common color code for 1995 XJ6 green and tan
