Default Passenger mirror not working up and down.

So my drivers mirror works up and down and left and right no problem.

but my passengers mirror does not.
it works left and right but not up and down.
when i move left and right i hear a relay click however when trying to move up and down there is no relay clicking.

i assume this is likely a busted motor in the passengers door mirror? And that the relay is not clicking as it being busted is not competing the circuit as looking at the wiring diagram it appears to loop the circuit from the drivers door switchpack to the module and then back to the module. There is no earth at the door.

the memory recall function will recall the position and move the drivers door mirror and it has saved the postition of the passengers door mirror, it can not move it up and down and struggles to move it left and right if the movement is quite a lot

The mirrors are easy to remove and by the one mirror working in the other connected position says the mirror is OK , sort of

So a positive test tells you something but a negative test does not

The discerning factor is the connectors pinned the same between left and right side

can the mirrors be removed without removing the door cards?
I ask just because doing my big stereo install I have just had the door cards off and the drivers door card is a bit busted so I have had to put some silicone around some of the clips so it stays in nice and tight. so its a little pain that I would like to avoid having to remove it again.

G'day Spud,

The actual mirror can be removed from the housing by sliding it slightly outboard, away from the car, and easing it away from the support structure
The mirror is spring loaded to the support structure.

With the mirror glass removed you will have access to the motors. You should be able to remove the complete mirror by easing off the black triangular plastic piece near the lower, forward corner of the window and there should be one bolt securing the mirror to the door frame. You will have to remove the upper door card. From one of the pix it looks like you can disconnect the electrics with out removing the lower door card.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Here you can see the attachment bolt and the end of the electrical plug.

Ease the mirror outboard a bit and it should release from the support structure.

But quickly noting before removing mirrors you are missing a click from where ?

Reading the wires at the suspect mirror vs. working side

The controller is fwd of the steering column

The whole mirror assembly as the first pic does not require inside card removal but the small black triangle above the card

The single large bolt is under the black corner triangle that is fragile so you would glue back on with a heated glue gun

By cranking the one large bolt the mirror assembly will fall off to the ground

removing upper door trim to remove mirror will be perfectly fine. removing the lower is what want to avoid.

I will have to add this job to the list for later to fix.
already got too many things planned for the last few days of my time off work.
finish stereo install, install dashcam, install footwell lights and a few other little bits to fix.

i assume the clicking comes from the mirror controller.
all other movements (drivers up, down, left right and passenger left and right) cause a clicking in a relay i assume is from the mirror module.
thats where it sounds to be coming from.
initially i thought that the relay would still click if the motors were broken so the problem must be something else, but then when looking at the wiring diagram and seeing how it connects possibly a bad motor will stop the relay clicking as the path can not be completed.
not sure how the wiring inside the modules are.

and also the fact the memory request does not work rules out the connection from the switchpack to the control module IMO as if i manually moved the mirror the memory request would still move it back.
the fact it does not further indicates to me that it is the motor.

so checking the wiring.
of the 7 wires going into the passengers mirror i know that 5 of them are working as they all relate to functions that work.
and given the way the motor appears to work the logical assumption is that the brushes in the motor are likely at fault stopping the circuit from being completed.

ok so,
I have not yet tested the mirror but something i did notice is that some wires have broken from the plug that connects to the switchpack.

I tried to remove the pins but have been unable to get the pins out.
i was looking to think it might be better just to replace the plug.

not the wiring diagram says it is a multilock 47 22 way.
having a little difficulty finding the exact right plug online.
can find a few that are similar but not sure exactly which one is correct.

this looks correct.
is it?

ok so....
I swapped my mirrors to test...

and it seems the passengers mirror is broken but so is something else

when i plug the fully working drivers side into the passengers side, there is no up and down.
showing something is wrong on that circuit. there is no click of a relay when up down is tried for left hand side. so it could be the mirror control module.
i suspect that maybe it is the plug going to the drivers door switchpack so i will buy what i hope is the correct plug and hopefully swap it.

but, when i plug the passengers side into the drivers door there is still also no up and down indicatiing that mirror is busted.

in short
drivers side mirror on drivers side = good
passengers side mirror on passengers side = no up and down
drivers side mirror on passengers side = no up and down
drivers side mirror on passengers side = no up and down
