Default Peanut Buttery Oil

Well, after reading all of the recent threads one here about oil, I went and checked my oil. I checked the oil with a cold engine. There was just a bit on the dip stick, about a centimeter (at that), and had a slight tinge of peanut butter colored streak in it. I dipped and checked the stick several times, each revealing slightly less peanut butter (for lack of a better word). What could that be?

I've never really worried about checking my oil. I don't know if it's low or anything. I just check for color, and make sure there are no bits in it (I always change my oil on what I feel like is a good interval). It's currently been 3-4 thousand miles since my last oil change. The car isn't and hasn't been leaking any oil (at least visibly).

A bit of emulsification, I'll wager. No worries. Take 'er on a good highway run for an hour and re-check.

And you'd be right.

Condensation often develops on dipsticks or other areas...inside oil caps, etc....when there hasn't been enough heat to evaporate it away. Pretty common, really, especially if the car is unused for a few days and /or used just for short trips.

Yeah, however, my car is driven every day, and it's usually a good 15 minute trip (at the least), defiantly enough to get the oil up to operating temp. Just in case, I'll check the oil when the engine is warm, and hopefully that will be it.

15 minutes is not enough. Take it on a good run for an hour.

I suppose I'll go for a nice little drive down the coast after a nice detail tomorrow or Tuesday.
