Hi Phil,

Thorton's claims sound a lot like snake oil. Here's a clip from Thorton's website:

Thorton's claims of 60 hp / 5 mpg gains with their Stage 3 chip seem highly implausible (impossible).

But even if they could really achieve those results via the OBDII data link connector (DLC) on some vehicles, it is even less likely that their chip could make any changes to the X300 Lucas Sagem GEMS Engine Control Module via the DLC. Not even the Jaguar dealership diagnostic PDU system can make any changes to fuel metering strategies in the X300 ECM. Here's a snip from the AJ16 Engine Management System manual including a warning about the lack of reprogrammability via the PDU (which connects via the same OBDII DLC the Thorton chip would):

Perhaps one of our Jaguar engineers can offer more insight.

Cheers,

Don
