Poor Jag won't start
HI folks,
I'm no expert on cars generally, so this may be easy...
Tried to jump-start my other car with the Jag a few weeks ago, but the Jag wouldn't start itself. Not surprising as it hadn't been driven for a few weeks, but surprisingly it did start BEFORE I tried to jump, when getting it into position.
It would just click when I turned the ignition.
It was low of fuel and battery, so I've topped up both.
After a few attempts where it just clicked (and the light that appears to be a sparkplug was lit - top-left light I think), now it doesn't make any attempt or noise at all. Some kind of fan starts up but nothing else happens.
Somebody suggested the solenoid in the starter motor may be jammed (hence the clicking) but now it doesn't even do that of course.
Any ideas before I have to get my local dodgy mechanic round? Help much appreciated.
Ferg.

Battery. These cars do these things if the battery voltage is even slightly low. Take the battery out and charge it, if you don't have a charger take itto your local auto parts storse and have them charge it. Try this first as this is the most likely and obvious cause.
I personally would not jump cars or jump start this car because they have sensative electronics that you risk frying with jumps.

RE: Poor Jag won't start
Thanks AJ.
I did remove it and charge it in the house and it seems to be fine (at least it works the central locking etc).
I used the Jag to try to jump another car (a 1.4l Honda Civic IMA) - could that have fked up the Jag? I wonder because the Jag started okay before I hooked up the leads to the Honda - after I hooked them up, the Jag started its clicking.

Hi,
I just read your post as my Jag is currently a non-starter. I would agree with the others, it is not recommended to jump any car that has an ECU (often called an ECM) without using jump leads with diodes inline to prevent current surges going back to the source car and frying the engine management system.
Regards
