power steering

Doesn't matter, IMHO. The power steering system isn't that fussy.
I buy quarts of generic store-brand "universal" ATF from Walmart for use in Jag power steering systems....or any other cars that specify ATF for that purpose.

Why did you need to change your power steering pump? Did yours start to loose power assist at idle and parking?
My steering rack was leaking so my long term mechanic put in a rebuilt one. The entire system was flushed and done by the book. Now I find the car is very hard to parallel park.
Now he wants to change the power steering pump. The car handles fine and the steering has power assist as long as the engine revs over 900 RPM.
Anyone had any similar experiences?

@Kevin, your old leaky rack, could have put a strain on the pump causing it to over work, or at worst pump air.
Check your tyre pressures, a soft one will cause you problems, but not expensive to fix.
You system is obviously working to a point, because a dead PS system on these cars is like trying to move a building by pushing one handed.
First check that the pump drive belt is good and is not slipping.
Then if all is good here, check your fluid level.
Raise and support the front of the car (axle stands) now turn your wheel from lock to lock several times.
Check fluid level.
Start car, repeat turning wheel as above.
Check level.
Lower car.
Repeat turning wheel as above.
Set wheel straight.
Check fluid level.
At least you will have followed the bleeding procedure, before deciding that it is an expensive pump that needs changing.
If you do in fact need a pump, why not give one of our sponsors a try on a good used one.
