My Daimler 6 (european) 1995,
I have no key and I'm stuck. A locksmith failed in programming transponder (EEPROM in the reader exciter?) Any idea,?
If I want to buy a set (barrels, key) do I have to find reader exciter+security module, all from the same car?
Thanks

If you are buying a replacement key you will also need to install the matching security module in the trunk above and to the front of the filler cap otherwise you will need dealer level software to program the security module to accept a different key. It is not necessary to replace the exciter module under the steering column. The exciter module is the same on all X300 jaguars with ROW security. It just reads the key chip and passes the information to the security module which confirms this is the correct key and instructs the body processor module to enable injection.

Jaguar does not publish circuit details of modules so I don't know what is inside. The exciter is a small module located under the steering column. As far as I know it's function is only to read the transponder chip in the key and pass this to the security module in the trunk. It is the security module in the trunk that checks if the key is valid not the exciter. The key code will be stored in an EEPROM and this could be read and reconfigured using a bin file but you would need to know the memory locations to change in the EEPROM and what they should be to changed to. It is likely that the EEPROM will be in the security module and not the exciter. This is the module that is coded for a new key using Jaguar dealer level software. It may be worthwhile seeking out a garage or dealer that has the correct diagnostic software to reprogram a key rather than a locksmith.
