Quick Introduction
Howdy all!
My neighbor down the street from me is selling his 1997 XJ6 VDP for $3000. The car has 130,000 and is in pretty good condition. The one main issue with the car is that there is zero compression in the 3rd cylinder. I've rebuilt my 92' BMW from the ground up so I feel pretty confident that I would be able to maintain the Jaguar. Here are a few pictures of the kitty still in my neighbor's driveway:
PS: What is the engine code for the 4.0L's?

Loss of compression at only 130,000 miles? I have heard of the AJ16 engine having the occasional head gasket issue when over 100,000, but not a total loss on one cylinder.
I've seen good runners with 110-130,000 going for $4500 or less. Figure $1,000-$1,500 for a complete engine (unless you do fix the existing one yourself, and you might find the repair to be cheaper once you get the head off), and see if you want to invest in it. If you plan on keeping the car, it will pay for itself by being avery nice car to drive.
Fortunately, the straight-six design is very easy to work on, and Jaguar did a nice job leaving service room on this car.
