Hello All, i have recently purchased a Jaguar XJR6, in good condition but not Showroom.
It Currently has 191,000km or 120,000 Miles. I have owned many jaguars but this is my first Supercharged. What do you should be gone through or replaced to make sure its all in good working order (the Car is being shipped i have not seen it yet, my cousins viewed the car and test drove (not a scam )
Bubbling on one rear fender.
The only light on is the 'Light Out; button. What would you suggest i do to the vehicle apart from a fluids flush.
When you get the car you'll obviously know more and there will surely be some faults that needs correcting. Let us know what you find.
I assume any used car needs a *full* service: all filters changed, all oils and fluids changed, bearings repacked, new belts, etc. In the process of this servicing you'll learn more about what the car needs. Don't forget to change the supercharger oil
The lower radiator hose is a monster to change....so it's very possible that it is original. If so, move it to a high position on your to-do list. It is NOT the type of thing that can be done by the side of the road.

Assuming it's a Canadian car, the lower radiator hose incorporates the block heater. That style of hose is no longer available, only the ones without a block heater are available. Not an issue if you don't intend to drive the car in the winter.
That being said, I have found the OEM Jaguar hoses from that era to be of very high quality. I'd inspect them, and if they are soft and pliable with no cracks or bulges, I'd be inclined to leave them be. So far I have found nothing in the after market that comes close to matching the quality of the the original hoses.
Edit: Just noticed the original post is 3 years old! So probably irrelevant.
Nice car, Karl.
I have run a 1997 XJR as a daily driver for 4 1/2 years, and done about 80,000km in that time. I have spent a lot of money, but still love it, and purchase price plus maintenance over that time would be about the same as a top-end Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, which would have depreciated to about the current value of my Jag.
Anyway, that is not what you asked.
Along the way I have worked out what needs doing.
I would replace the radiator and all hoses. The cheapest radiator I could find is from Berkshire Jaguar Components in UK, 285 pounds, hasn't arrived yet so cannot comment on quality. the old plastic pipes always fail, it's a matter of when, not if.
the Hella electric intercooler pump will be very tired and the car will benefit greatly from an upgrade replacement to the Bosch one. easy job.
all oils (engine, gearbox, diff) need changing.
also coolant. use the orange stuff that Jaguar recommended originally.
if you want a boost to performance, go to Powerhouse.co.uk and splurge on their 10% larger supercharger crank drive pulley and drive belt. big difference in oomph.
AndyStoddart in UK can reprogramme your EPROMs or for about 75 quid hecan sell you his 'Andy bracket' which advances the ignition curve about 3' and makes a difference too.
having mucked around with pod air filters and measured various parameters with a Kiwi3 OBDII device, I have gone back to standard airbox and paper filter, with no measurable loss of performance. With Andy's EPROMs and the powerhouse pulley, at full throttle I max out the airflow meter at about 4,500rpm, whether pod filter or factory set-up. intake temp is same as ambient with the standard set-up, so no gain in trying to make a cold-air intake - the factory set-up already is.
Nice car Karl and nice car Cafcpete - that red is one of my favourites. Your XJR6 pictures are tempting me to put the original alloys back on the car. Mine has X308 Pentas on it at the moment.
Today I collected my car from Tom Lenthall Jaguar in Wokingham who retro fitted cruise control to it. 23 years later I have finally sorted the mistake the original purchase made in not fitting it. I cruise a fair bit on the motorway from Kent to London and have always missed this functionality.
Problem sorted. Paid £200 for the parts and got charged four hours labour (amongst some other jobs on the car including sorting the dreaded high idle), I am a happy X306 owners this evening.

After much soul searching, I have decided that the originals will go back on next spring (on my Dad's car, lol. I'll buy the tires). Those wheels make it obvious you have a supercharged six, which I think is a special car. It's the 3.8 Mk 2 for our generation.
