Go with 18 / 225 or 235 / 45. if you put some 50's on they are going to rub when you make a sharp turn. I'm speaking from 2 years experience. If you go to a wheel & rim dealer make them put the rims & tires on so you can see what they look like before you pay for them. What they look like in the window could be much different on your car.

I put these 17" XK8 rims on my car. I also added the grill surround and mesh inserts from an XJR, got it painted to match my car. With the two upgrades my XJ6 Vanden Plas looks a lot more sporty!

I've heard bad things about tremoring when putting larger rims on our cars. I'd be wary of going any higher than 17"

Heh heh, no kidding! I went from 17s down to 16s :-)

(I think you meant to say "tramlining")

Stay with a 17 or 18 rim, it's not the size of the rim (17 or 18) it's the tire / rim combanation. Go on line and research wheel rim and tire combanations Type in: RIM & TIRE COMBANATIONS in google. If you put a 25 height tire on an 18 in rim the wheel well will look empty or the other hand if you put a 60 height tire or a 18 rim you won't be able to drive the car. Standard tire height for an X300 is 16 / 225 / 60 that combanation fills the wheel well just right. As an experiment go to wheel-rim & tire dealer and ask them to put a used 16/225/40 tire on your standard rim and see what it looks like. When you see it you'll get the message about rim and tire combos.

HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY JAG WITH 18/225/50's; NOTICE THE WHEEL WELL IS FILLED. (click on the attachment)

hey cooke, whats up?? thanks for the info. I wanted to ask you, whats your ride like on your 18's? I was at a few local wheel shops, and they said only certain rims in size 18 can fit my jag because of the bolt pattern... Is this true??

That's true, be very, very careful. Do not purchase any rims until you fit them up to the car. IT'S AN OLD STYLE BOLT PATTERN DON'T EVEN BUY A SET OF RIMS THAT ARE ON ANOTHER JAG. BECAUSE JAGUAR CHANGED BOLTS PATTERNS SOMETIME IN 2003 OR 2004. My wheels ride just like stock because they is plenty of rubber on the tire. if you go with 18's go with 18/225/45 it will fill the wheel well, look good and ride real sweet.
The bolt pattern for x300 is: 5 X 120.7

hey cooke, I was on the sears website looking at custom rims, and I noticed that they do have 19's that would fit my jag. The bolt pattern says 5-475 for all XJ Models from 1995-2003. In 2004 the bolt pattern changes to 5-108. So would this mean I could still fit any rims that would fit a 95-03 XJ series? because the bolt pattern is all the same....

I'm not sure, but as I said buy NO RIMS until they put the rim on your hubs and fit them up. Remember this, most retailers will tell what you need to hear to get your money. FIT'EM UP BEFORE YOU PAY.

You can go back even earlier and find that Jag used the 5x4.75 pattern for decades.

'Tis the size of the center holes that can cause a problem.

Well, with regards to practicality, both of those cars are the X308 which have a different designed front end which makes them considerably less tramlining when brought up to speed.

On a side note, I think that man may have some brain damage. When appallingly large rims are put on a car, it becomes only about the rims, and not the car. It works much better on some other cars having 21 inch rims because they fit flawlessly with the car (Rolls Royce Phantom). Putting 24 inches of rim on a Jaguar, especially an Xj (X300, X308 variety) just looks bad.

Right ! If it was my car I'd want someone to say "What a great looking car" and not "Oh my f**king god, look at those RIMS!" :-)

Default Don't do it

Anything over 18 or 19 would make the car look like an urban gang banger bucket. You want a car where when you go out with your family or your girl (wife) they don't laugh and point. Look at some of the pictures on this site and tell me what looks good to you. There are no classey XJ6's (pictures) on this site with a set of low rider rims.

Default Keep the Spokes

Keep the chrome spokes!! those are classy.. I rarely see jags even having them. Nothing flosses better then a fresh clean chrome spoke..but the cleaning is a hassle If you check my profile you can see them on mine.
