Running light and Taillight staying on!!!
What’s up everyone, I just purchased a 1997 Jaguar XJR6, body and paint are good, drivetrain is solid with 173k miles on it but there is one issue that has got me. The running lights stay on when the car is off. I can turn the lights off when the car is running but as soon as I shut the car off the lights will turn on again. I’ve checked all the doors and made sure that they are closed, trunk closed, yet lights still stay on.
Has this ever happened to anyone before? Any advice would help, I would like to drive the car around without having to disconnect the battery every time I leave it parked.
I also checked fuses but everything checked out fine.
Thanks in advance

If you get to the point of changing the exterior lamp control module the 97 has a part # change with respect to the last 6 #s of your VIN #
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/
There is the front courtesy lights that should come on in exiting the car
See Youtube video and it might be in there

Ok
So the rear red running light would not be expected
The courtesy lights are on a timer , does the rear red running light go out after a certain time along with the front lower small white bulb in the headlights ?
This could also include the very lower door lights but I'm not for sure on that as they may be door open switch dependent

The tilt has a position sensor attached to a gearbox that binds from old grease and drags down the motor and whole mechanism
The extension has a shaft that shears and has to be replaced and harder work
But I get the 2 directions mixed up in my head
Fuse ?
There was a Jaguar TSB to put in a more powerful motor, but you can clean out the old grease and put in new grease
10-12 (jagrepair.com)
The sensor gear box is on the very lower portion of the column, and you can see it if you crawl under there and just clips on
But on reinstallation it has to be clocked so don't remove it yet and tinker with it
There is a clocking process
See the pics in this thread and you do not need to remove the motor just the black gearbox / sensor attached

Also FYI the car has sat for over a year, looks like the previous owner didn’t have much luck sorting out the bugs or just neglected it. I will need to change all the fluids and flush the fuel system, also do some major color sanding and polishing to bring it back to showroom condition, overall the car is in great shape and drivetrain is healthy.
I also want to add that buying a decent test light has been very helpful.
thanks for all the help, I will keep posted on progress.

There is a TSB on upgrading the fuse sizes that are different then the original values
There was a thing about counterfeit fuses that will not blow but limit the current flow based on using the incorrect metal conductor
It can be found here and your TSB # is 15 - 16
