Which shocks?
I am looking to replace the shocks on my 95 jx6 with new Bilsteins. Desiring the Bilstein sports or HD, I favor a performance edge over comfort. I understand that the sports are 1 inch shorter. But what about the difference in ride quality/control between the sports and HD's? For me the Jag seems quite low enough for the roads of northeast Ohio. So im leaning towards the Bilstein HD's.
I hope they arent too harsh. What do you think about Bilsteins compared to other brands? Are Bilsteins the benchmark in quality?

Also, I am unsure if my 95 XJ6 has self adjusting shocks. Even the Jag dealer could not tell me because, "the information is not available for that year", after they searched my VIN number! Some service!
My car DOES have sport MODE. The previous owner claims that it changes the shifts AND firms up the shocks. But considering he lied about many things, I don't know whether to believe my XJ6 has self adjusting shocks.

The sport mode for your car only changes the shifting in the transmission. Depending on how far you depress the pedal, the transmission will shift at higher revs.
Your shocks are not self adjusting, unless someone has installed self adjusting shocks on the car. You should be able to tell simply by jacking up the car, removing the tire, and reading the brand stamped on the shock. It's probably the original Jaguar one.
Yes, buy Bilsteins. They are OEM, or very close to OEM from what I know.
The normal heavy duty shocks should be just fine. I just replaced my front shocks with them and they're great. You'll probably be fine if you decide to go with the shocks meant for the X306 chassis. I didn't know they were an inch shorter (if they are). I'm sure if they won't fit someone will chime in. If not, buy the heavy duty shocks and save some money.
