Perhaps a bit torque converter clutch chuggle? It can feel a bit like a surge when it engages and disengages, or even feel like a misfire at times if the engagment/disengagement is a bit harsh.
If the symptom is constant enough to make experimenting meaningful you can take the TCC out of the picture by just tickling the brake pedal very lightly. The TCC should disengage and stay disengaged as long as you're touching the brake pedal. Watch the tachometer for verification. It should jump 100 rpm or so. Of course, don't go on like this for miles as you don't want to overheat the brakes.
