stalling and gear box warning light

I've had my ’95 X300 Sovereign 4.0 nearly six months now and when I first got it I had a stalling issue, it only stalled when cold and only did it on 3 or 4 occasions and always restarted immediately, once warmed up it behaved faultlessly, if re-started right away the gearbox warning light illuminated but doesn’t if you wait awhile before restarting.
But after 6 months of trouble free running it did it again today, I never bothered investigating it in the first place because it seemed to have ‘cured’ it’s self, this is obviously not the case so I think I should investigate but where do I start?
Anyone any thoughts on this? I’m not to worried about the gearbox warning light because think it’s simply the fact it’s stalled while in gear causing the warning light and not a indication of a gear box fault, it’s the stalling that I can’t work out what could be causing it?

I think you may be on to something with your last observation

That fault can occur because the engine senses speed while in gear, with no engine sppeed. The crank position sensor (not the cam one which looks like a mutant distributor) is a known intermittent problem and is not too expensive to replace.
