Smile Stalling may have been solved!!

For years I have been having a short stalling problem. It would frequently happen after driving about 30 miles and then stop for a light. Starting up it would stall for about one to two seconds and if I didn't move the throttle it would recover and be fine. When this would happen the idle would drop a little before the stall. It would also do it at other times but always only for a short duration and then recover if I didn't move the throttle. Well it seems to have stopped after I put in new Jap coils, plugs, new overhauled cam cover with new gaskets that were sealed with high tempt sealer. When the old coils were checked in the dark all seemed to be working fine. Car seemed to run fine too. But when I removed the old coils every well had a lot of oil in it. One plug well had so much that with the coil out I couldn't see the plug. Of course I mopped all the oil out before removing the plugs. The bottom line is with new coils, plugs with no oil in the wells the car immediately seemed to run better.

All this has been about a month ago and several hundred miles and NO STALLING.

I will keep the forum informed as to the status as time goes on. One other point to make is that I still have the original TPS. However, the throttle body has been cleaned about six months ago. ]

Car has 131,000 miles on it.

Flooded spark plug wells, so deep you can't see the plugs, surely was your primary problem. Glad it sorted out after the repair!

I have one well that gets partially flooded, so replacement of the cam cover gaskets is on my list sometime this year too.

Thanks Al. You didn't have to rub it in. Actually the car ran pretty good and didn't have any effect on gas mileage.

Good to see you finally sorted it.

Oil in those wells is an issue with nearly every COP car that I see, not just Jaguars.

Our 2 S Types have very slight weeping into a few, and that damn manifold has to come off to some of them, so it is waaaaaay down the list, trsut me.
