I had someone weld the crack manifolds with cast iron. Seem to work out great so far

I’ve managed to get the new downpipe connected to the manifolds, on the studs, and everything back together. Except for one annoying thing.

Is there any adjustment I can make to bring these together? Loosen the manifold to downpipe bolts or something? Or should these two bits just mesh nicely. There’s a bit of movement in each pipe, but the olive always seems to leave a sliver of a gap no matter how I’m lining them up. |
Using the power of two men, I managed to force the pipes together and now the Jag is back in action. Nice, quiet action.
Thanks to all who helped me on the way, turned out not to be as hard as I was expecting once the car was up in the air but your tips and information were great aids. I’ll see you all again with another post shortly I’m sure. Ciao! |

Interesting what you said are your suspected symptoms. My stumbling started after running very low on fuel, perhaps the watery dregs at the bottom? But after filling up it continued, so perhaps unrelated.
I also recently did an oil change, with the level to the maximum. My manifolds are cracked and a recent long battle with a dead misfire might’ve clogged the rear cats with raw petrol, as the pop came just after the primary cat. I might try a liberal application of wire, exhaust bandage, and exhaust putty to seal the hole up temporarily to see if the stumbling problem reappears before committing to a new exhaust section. Don’t want to fit a new one and then have it burst straight away again. |
I used a wood stick and thin rope to lever up the pipes into place , careful that the lever does not get loose and crack the windseild , cloth bumper pad on the end of the stick
Used a bowline knot on the rope I cut the web between the 2 pipes |
