Default Sun roof lubrication

I actually drove around for a bit with the sun roof open. It opened and closed smoothly but when I got home I noticed the rails were a little sticky with old grease I presume. I'm thinking about cleaning them up and adding some new lube. Any suggestions on what to use. I have white silicone grease but I'm not sure if that's the best choice. Anyone think something else might be more appropriate? Thanks.

G'day P,

I have used motorcycle chain spray lube on my sunroof mechanism and it gets in everywhere and works just fine.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Thanks, when the rain stops I'll give it a try. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way.

G’day P,

You can buy the chain lube in cans with a thin plastic tube as part of the nozzle which allows you to lube all the hard to get to bits. There is quite a lot of solvent in the oil when you spray it which eventually evaporates leaving the oil behind on all the components.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Jaguar issued TSBs for the sliding roof lubrication.
Jaguar recommends Molykote 111.
