It's been advised by a few folks to have the sunroof replaced. It's got rust and may leak in the future. The trunk and rear bumper of my XJ6 also has aesthetic issues and I would like to get the car looking good. The rest of the car looks decent but not perfect. I was considering having a body shop work out these major areas and blend paint with the original rather than getting a full paint job.

Does anyone have an opinion on the best way to go about fixing these issues? Also, any thoughts on a reasonable price for this job?

If your handy, find a used, working sun roof from a salvage yard, clean and lube it up, take the headliner down and remove the old and install the better one. While you're at it and since it's down, replace the fabric of the headliner too. As for body work and issues with the paint, shop around with your local shops to see what kind of deal you can get because most shops are competitively priced in what they do. It's mostly labor in good prep work $$$ and I used to see cars already prepped and primed by the owner going into Maaco paint shops getting the basic (cheap) paint job and pay extra for a lot of clear coat...400-600 bucks or maybe even a 1000 and that's a full body paint job. That was in the 90's and early 00's so I'm sure prices have changed. Just shop around and look at the kind of work they do and ask questions. You just may get lucky! Good luck!

 

First you want the leaks fixed.

I would replace sun roof from junkyard but get a new seal for it.
If trunk is leaking replace seal as well
Yah prep you own car maaco charges xj300
If you did pre prep $450 whole paint job but
$100 per door jam and trunk jam. So extra $500 if you get a differ
Color and want jams painted..

I'm just gonna get same color for $450 and pay $450 for extra clear coats..


After that I would do the head liner.. steering wheel and shifter ***
