TCM trouble 1995 XJR
My name is Greg Douglas. I have a 1995 XJR 117k sweet ride if I can get it play right. Just about to cut the cord and say it's a lose, Car is from California was driven for about a month no problems. Transported to Florida came off the truck with a check engine light, drove about 1 mile and the transmission light came on and went into limp mode, about $1200 so fare and no fix, reset lasts about 5 miles and back to limp mode, was at jag dealer for 3 days and I find out that it has a later mod ECM and they think it could be the TCM that is bad but it will $2500 and a 50/50 chance to see if that is what it could be??? Trying to find part # but all I’m doing is pounding my head on the wall. Looking at buying used and replacing ECM AND TCM found some on CAR-PART.com but not sure what the 95 takes there are several. Can anybody tell me where the ECM AND TCM are or where to look to find the part #? Dealer said it was under the tire in trunk on a white label. NOT. Note A&B shift sensors were change twice and all wiring tested inside and out. Thanks G.D.

The transmission control module is behind the glovebox.
Up to VIN 787953 takes part number LAB2400CE. VIN 787954-later takes part number LTE2400AA
Check the wiring harness where it connects to the transmission. A worn transmission mount can allow too much transmission movement, which tugs at the harness, damaging the wires. This is often the root cuase of odd transmission behavior on the XJRs. (and V12s, too)
I'll find the basic part number for the engine ECU but there are many sub variations. Best bet, really, is to get the number off the existing unit. The suffix letters and numbers represent the exact programming. It's located behind the right front kickpanel
Cheers

Thanks for the info on locating ECM an TCM.
But still have problems VIN# is SAJPX114XSC745827 and the ECM was changed out with one from an older year so the # is hosed. according to jag dealer it's sending two emission codes and they said that this car doesn’t have EGRs I think is what he called it. Can I get a combination of the two for a 1995 XJR the will work and make this cat drivable.
Thanks again!!!

Near as I can tell the ECM will be LNA1410HDxxx or LNA1410CExxx.
The "xxx" will be numeric
I suspect that the ECM from any other 1995 XJR-USA specification will work even if the final programming ("xxx") is different.
I wish I could positively confirm that for you. But, I can't.
There are so many variations... but no way of telling if the differences are truly significant.
Cheers

Doug:
Thanks for the info, I found a 1995 XJR in Phoenix. ECU a TCU from the same car VIN is just 4K below my jag, if they are good and everything works after swap out, all is well. Talked to a guy in Detroit today and he said any 95 up to 78XXXXK on the VIN should work if I have the set. This is my first Jag so I have a learning curve to deal with but I’ll get it. Oh I bought another one Monday just like the one I have it only has 72K on it, Transporter Mike said it's Cherry inside and out, so if something goes nuts I got it covered one way or the other.
Thanks

Not yet, but it looks like its in the wiring harness plug. had it in jag shop, they couldn't find it, so I ran it down to a buddy of mine that runs a shop and he found it. problem is can't find the right parts to fix it yet. If all else fails I'm going to buy another one for parts and change out tranny, TCU and all.

I took my 1995 to Steve's Jaguar Service in Canoga Park, CA and they charged me $380 to tell me that I need a new External Wiring Harness. Mine also has a bad connector going to the back of the transmission. I'm going to try and repair the connector. The 1995 to 97 XJ12 has the same wiring harness. They are still available new. Here's the part number:LNA3380AD. The list price $413.54

Check your transmission mount while you're at it! The transmission connector problems are typically caused by a failed/failed mount
