Default Thermostat Factory v. replacement
Hello. The factory thermostat has a little poppet valve in it, I suspect for auto air purging. Is this valve necessary? Can I use the thermostat furnished me as OEM (Not) by Rock Auto? What is the little valve designed to do, if not for purging air? Is it necessary? Thanks very much.

Yes it is required.

The explanation is very hand wavy so I'll leave that to
others or other sites.
