Anyone good at reading circuit diagrams? This pair have to be related as they popped up at the same time last year, disappeared simultaneously (after disconnecting battery for some other purpose) and have just come back again!

Arrive back at parked car (in pouring rain), aerial standing proud - ooh, that not good, panic at thought of flat battery but started ok. Radio staying on after key removed.

Stop off on way home for hour, remembering the horrors of last year with airbag light. Sure enough, restart and it's back.

Doubtless the unfindable power drain is back too

Anyone any thoughts? I keep thinking sticking ignition relay somewhere but damned if I can find it

I would take a minute to check out the ignition barrel itself, as they can gunk up somewhat. Put a little graphite grease on the key and work it in and out a few times, switching ignition on and off, through all it's positions.

Alternatively, a little squirt of electrical contact cleaner into the barrel might also help. Turning off the ignition and removing the key doesn't mean that part of the switch isn't still open/closed as appropriate.

 

sogood is right. There is a "horizontal switch" in the key lock barrel that detects key insertion. If it sticks "on" you get exactly the symptoms you describe.
