Default Time for a gear change knob change

My leather gear change knob has become significantly worn (wishing I'd asked the shop to give back the section cut out of my driver's side bolster last summer when I had a panel replaced to fix a hole- probably enough there to mend the knob) Not to worry, I've "won" a wooden one on eBay!!!

Sweet!
There were several on eBay I liked better, as well as ALL on that site...... but I got by for $31.80 including shipping, and I don't like the others 2X-3X as much!

Great pick up, a $30 buck outlay for a million dollar look!

I'm curious as to how many variations of gear knob were made for the X300, as you can see mine is plain polished wood without the metal trim ring that yours has. I think they may have been only fitted to the X300 Sport (mine) and XJR models with the dark wood trim, but not sure...

I have bought from eBay a manual shift leather gear knob for my XJR undergoing trasmission swap from auto to manual. Cost about 10 GBP. Very artistic and original.

Yep, the dark birds eye maple was for the Sport and XJR only as far as I can tell.

It is a hard color to match and I haven't found anyone that makes a knob in that color.

However British Auto Wood confirmed they could match the mahogany steering wheel

Hi all, I am wondering if there is any guide on how to remove / replace the gear shift knob on XJ6 X300 ?? Mine is pretty worn and would like to replace it with a wooden one. Thanks

G'day CSST,

The gear knob just unscrews from the stick. There is a small locking nut below the knob you may have to loosen first.

Cheers,
Jeff.
