Lots of tire threads, but here's a good one that covers lots of points about various tires and sizes:

BTW, I still really like the Michelin Primacy MXM4 in the 245/50R17 size I ended up with:

Wonder if that experience is size dependent? I put defenders on our 1995 Riviera about a year ago, 235-16, and they have been great riding, smooth and quiet. Good grip even in light snow too.

I put 80K on a set of Michelin Primacy's (60k warranty) and they still had well more than 2/32" tread remaining.....but by that time they were a bit hazardous on wet roads. I opted for Michelin's new Premier but it wasn't available in the 225-60 R16. I had to choose a size up or down. I went "down" (215/60R16 95 V vs. 225/65 load index 100) because I didn't want the extra inch of dia. (and added wt) sucking the life out of my acceleration. Granted, Discount Tire wouldn't sell them to me (Sir, those tires won't support your car) but after doing the math, I ordered a set from Tire Rack and took the wheels and tires to a shop sans the car, so there wouldn't be anymore bothersome questions. I do have to keep an eye on the pressure, with that load range, you don't have the luxury of running one "bad low" as it were. So hesitated to comment here....but now I see Michelin has FINALLY begun producing them in 225-60 X 15. Yay! That'll be my next set.
The Primacy's were fantastic, really loved 'em...and had great wet-traction for their guaranteed 60k miles...but somewhere between 60k and 80k, wet traction went to pot. As I said, still greater than 2/32" probably 4 - 5 /32" average all around. These Premier's supposed to be just-as-good, or better in the wet when worn, as compared to new.
BTW, they've "supported the car" for 20k miles so far, which is a third of their warranty life. I think they'll do just fine....

I'm also interested in the new version of the Continental DWS. I was interested in the DWS but read some reviews of the last version having some wear issues with heavier cars, but now they have a new and improved revision out.
So we'll have to see how the reviews stack up over time for them.

great tires
My first Jaguar X300 (XJ6) vanden Plas 1996 came with a set of goodyear triple treads. They were about 70% used and still gripped in the wet very well. Needless to say I have purchased another set and when my first Jaguar was totaled, I took those tires and used them on my second 1996 replacement Jaguar X300. I liked them so much I purchased a set for my 1999 Volvo v70. They are quiet, grip well in dry and wet, Long tread wear.

I normally would be a Michillin or Pirelli man but I had to make an emergency purchase last August and ended up getting BF Goodrich TA's, including a spare as it was the original and gave out on the way to the tire shop. I'm now just at 9K into them and have been pleasantly surprised.
Ride quality and road noise have not ruined the cars natural levels, wet traction has been "reassuring", and overall road holding is much better than I expected. We have a few curves on the local bypass that I tend to slow down 5-10 mph in other vehicles but I've learned to just keep it steady and the car zips right through without a whine or twitch.

The Continentals replaced a set of Goodyear Eagle F1, they weren't worn, I just did not like the firm "supercar" ride, but wow do they grip. Still have them in my shop, size 255/40ZR17.
