Today first time ever, my 1996 XJ6 Sedan had trouble starting. Hot day and car was sitting on flight line at work all day. Tried to start and took about 3 long times of cranking before it finally started. Once I got home, I was sitting in car while it was idling and it stalled out 2x. I was able to get started, but wasnt consistent to start up immediately. Where do you recommend I start for trouble shooting?

One quick check you can do the next time the engine doesn't want to start is to watch the tachometer while cranking the engine. If the needle doesn't move, suspect the crankshaft position sensor (CKPS). The tach should show 200-300 rpm while cranking.
I would also suggest that you have the car scanned for any stored fault codes that may hasten the diagnosis.
If no codes are stored, how long has it been since your last tune up (plugs, fuel filter, air filter, etc.)? Sometimes hard starting can be caused by a combination of multiple components not functioning at 100%, especially in extreme conditions like high ambient temperatures.
