UNBELIEVABLE Main Dealer estimate
Sit down and pour stiff drink before you read this
Jacinta the Jag (95 X300) was up for her MOT (annual roadworthiness test) so not being well at the moment arranged for main dealer to pick up, 'visually inspect', put through test and return
They eventually picked up several hours late, having forgotten about me, tooke her off to their house of horrors and then called me to say all was doomed - no hope at all according to them of a pass
Fair enough, sez me, take her up for the test and bring the old girl home
Phone call the following morning....'Not sure how to tell you this, but....'
'Give me the worst, I can take it - was it shooting or lethal injection?'
'It's worse - she passed!'
So back she comes, complete with two new electrical gremlins and the below repair estimate
(Sit down, pour another drink, as it's that bad)
Estimate for repairs required on jaguar
Osf lower ball joint split 1.3hrs £195.99
Both front springs badly rusted 1.6hrs £591.70
Oil leak at power steering pump 1.00hr £360.99
Nsf chassis leg – hole evident refer to bodyshop
Both rear lower fulcrum bushes 3hrs £308.74
Fuel pipes 1.9hrs £214.23
Hole in osr underneath vehicle refer to bodyshop
Front brake pads and discs 1.5hrs £334.20
Rear brake pads and discs 1.5hrs £334.78
Service 1.75hrs £266.67
Brake fluid .50hrs £50.00
Coolant 0.50hrs £58.33
Air con service and flush 0.50hrs £99.17
Both front wings rotten and wheel arches refer to bodyshop
Suspected both front wheel bearings 3.6hrs £366.72
Sub total £3234.85
Vat £646.97
Total price including parts, labour and Vat £3881.82
All the above for a car that has just been rigorously inspected by government apointed technicians!
Needless to say she ain't going back to main dealer - I'll get my local indie to work out what really needs done and get that sorted over the course of next year
Particularly liked 'suspected both front wheel bearings' - must mean they suspect she has bearings
All prices above in GBP - aren't you glad you were sitting down!
Nibbs

Good lord, that's about £1500 more than the car is worth.
$6220 in non compulsory repairs, for the guys over the water.
Just one observation, why are parts and labour not listed separately? How do you know what parts are being replaced?
Example; Oil leak at power steering pump 1.00hr £360.99
Mind you, if it is anything like over here, the dealer is legally obliged to list every problem they find on the car if it has been in their shop. That way it is now your fault if anything serious happens, because you did not have them correct the noted issues.
