Default unknown harness in trunk

During my fuel pump investigation yesterday and today I discovered a loose/disconnected wiring harness above the fuel tank. I "think" it has something to do with a missing CD changer unit but I am not sure so I thought I would ask the experts here.

I tried to see where the extra wire goes that has been hacked into the harness by a DPO but it seems to disappear inside the interior someplace.

See the attached photos of the plug that has been hacked up by the previous owner.

Likely mates to an ancient phone module. I found this piece of it in the SpurceBruce after purchase:

Wiring was similarly haphazardly spliced:

I don't recall exactly, but my son googled the label info and found some Russian website indicating it was part of a phone system.

That is the connector for the trunk end of the in-car mobile phone system. The other end of the cable is up in your console coiled up near the shifter and is a female RJ48 jack.

...and this is a cable one could potentially use for low voltage power or possibly audio signal if you need to get from the front to back. That's my plan for it.

Thanks for the info from both experts.

Ancient in car mobile phone system, never to be used again.
