Various Small Issues

Various Small Issues
So I bought a 1997 XJ6 2 months ago, cheap, and it has been a great car. I am the 7th owner and it has 142k miles, right where you want a Jaguar. It's worlds more reliable and relaxing than TR7 ownership at least. But I have run into a few problems I could use some tips in dealing with.
The first being my wiper only works at the highest speed and with the steering column down a fair way. I removed the cowl to take a look but there is a lot going on there(more than a tr7) so I figured I would ask what to look for before diving in.
The second is my door chime does not work, it's not really important but I think it would be fun to have back. I don't exactly know where to go hunting for this one.
The power steering is intermittent at best, is it safe to assume the pump is the culprit?
Finally, my front bank downstream o2 sensor has failed, I have a replacement but...what is the best way to go about getting at it before I jump in?
There are other mechanical problems but frankly, I have been ignoring them as they probably aren't that important or neglecting them out of laziness I must admit. Its been quite nice.

Wiper - there are 2 relays in the following pic you can place your finger on the slow relay and feel for a click which could indicate if the switch wires have come loose
The relay unclips by pushing down and flipping over and spaying the seal seam with penetrating oil
The steering column operation switch is show in the following video
there is a sensor that gums up dragging the motor down , easy job
The O2 sensors can be swapped as you receive the car ( the connectors are the same ) so you would have the follow the topside connect wire colors to be on the presently installed position sensor
The wire colors are on the car side of the pigtail connector , the pigtails have the same wire colors for all sensor positions
There are 4 wires and is the 4th wire that is the difference on the car side of the connector
There are some things to look at before replacing the sensor
The sensor is a Titanium base and not the more common
There is a relay on the variable speed steering option not on all cars that you would have to look for the relay to know what you have , it may be kicking in and out other then simply noise caused by old worn out fluid causing cavitation noise , easy fix
This relay is fwd of the left front door lower hinge under a small cover
This can be seen in the following doc on page 19
it is not labeled in the pic in front of the 1 and 2 front windshield electric heaters which you may not have ( expensive option )

the door chime not working is likely to do with one of the door ajar switches being stuck and not actually sensing that the door is open.
i had this intermittent issue on my drivers door.
when you open the door check if the courtesy light on the door comes on.
if the little light on the door is not on then it is possible that the door switch is broken.
now it is a bi of a pain to remove the door card and get into the door switch, but maybe spraying some wd40 all over and around the door lock mechanism might just free it up.
it did for me and my drivers door

i assumed he meant the headlight on warning.
the noise/beep/chime that you get when you leave the headlights on and open the door.

If you look under the steering column you will see a drive motor on the bottem for either the tilt of reach ( I get them mixed up )
if you remove the motors female connector clips you can run the motor back and forth with a battery charger
There be a high current arching hazard so you would have the make a pigtail leads to bring the final connection out from under there
You will have to keep track of which clip went where on reassembly

Thank you for all the information and the repair pdf.
I knew the wipers and power steering had relays and didn't know where to find documentation on what relay does what
For everyone else,
I misspoke on it being a door chime its the Jaguar "bing bong" which I think motorcarman has pointed me in the right direction.

NAS stands for North American Specification. Different parts of the world have small differences in wiring and SLCU part # s
Notice the # of fuses in red
Your fuses are on page 32 and on
Your chime / aural warning speakers are on page 100 , notice the BPM can be reset with a " Hard Reset " which involves more then removing the battery positive post terminal
