VCM on XJ6 & XJR6??
Hello everyone, I'm going to be selling my '93 XJ6 in about a month or so to buy a '96 or '97 XJR6. There's one thing I'd like to know that I havent been able to find out though. In my XJ6 I have to the right of the steering wheel the on board computer with mileage, trip, etc, AND the Vehicle Condition Monitor, which I can look up exactly what the check engine lights are in my manual and will also tell me what it is and a short description. I know the 1995-97 XJ6 & R have the same set up but from pictures I can't tell if it also has the VCM option too? Thanks in advance!

I agree with you, it's a nice function. The upside is that any shop or generic code reader (they are cheap at any local parts house) will read the codes and the codes are universal.
Now bear in mind these are emission codes only. That's what the EPA demanded of the manufacturers. The trans, SRS, and all other codes generally will not read.

Oh they only deal with the emissions problems? It's funny that I'm learning all this now because my dad has those check engine problems on his '98 Bimmer and the plug in for the OBD is right under the radio. And even the newer style Jeep Cherokees like I have now (2001) compared to the old '91 I had were changed to that OBD program too starting in 1996 I believe. But hey, at least I dont live in California!
