Had an odd experience replacing the water pump on my XJR.
Purchased new (aftermarket) pump from Coventry West. On casual inspection it was a good match. After installation, however, it would not turn! I discovered this on engine start-up when the belt screeched and smoked on the *non-rotating* pulley. Gahhh!
On removal and closer inspection by standing the two pumps side-by-side I saw that the impellor on the new pump was proud of the pump body by about 1/8" more than the old pump. This caused the impellor to jam against the pump housing when the pump was bolted up.
So there's a little something for everyone to check if a water pump replacement is in the cards. Can't say I've ever come across it before but there's always a first time.
A water pump job isn't the worst thing in the world on one of these cars but it's not the type of thing you really wanna do twice, either :-)
Credit to Coventry West for providing a replacement in record time. Good guys there.
Cheers

Just removed my XJR's Water pump . Ordered a replacement from Gaudin supplied VIN # Recieved a metal inserted impeller pump { best way to describe it} Does not fit Seems I saw a mention of not buying metal one plus another post saying get the metal one .
Little confusing .
Will see how Gaudin responds to issue.
