Whaddya call this part? And oil pressure question...
Hi all!
i haven’t been on much in the last year since I inherited the family xj6 (‘95). Basically because I haven’t needed much! But now I have 2 questions I’m hoping for help with.
first: in the picture, I need to replace the disintegrated radiator mount / bushing thing. What’s it called and anyone have a link to where to purchase? Any difficulties with install?
second: when the car is warmed up, at idle the oil pressure gauge will sometimes drop to zero and the oil light comes on. Checked oil and level is fine— only happens at idle when it’s fully warmed up. I’m taking the car in to see a new recommended mechanic and will have them take a look but was wondering if there’s a common problem to be looking for.
Drop "thing" and you've about got it. Radiator Mounting Bush (bushing) 4 per car. (There are 2 more under the radiator)
RockAuto.com is my favorite source for them.
You'd be wise to renew the condenser mounting bushes while you're at it....if you fancy operable air conditioning. 2 upper and 2 lower. Rock also an excellent source for the uppers. Lowers? Pretty much a dealer item, and not cheap for what they are...I don't recall exactly, but something like $6-$10 ea, which doesn't sound bad, but they are just little rubber caps.
Oil pressure issue is common. You likely have the pressure transducer, famous for the behavior you report. There is a fix-kit - an oil pressure switch replaces the transducer, and you get an inline resistor for the wiring plug. Per Jaguar TSB, the instrument Panel should be reprogrammed when the switch is installed, but you'll be fine without that step. Gauge will run just proud of the midpoint as long as you have 8 psi or more oil pressure once you fit the kit. Search on low oil pressure or some such and you'll find the whole story, with TSB and pictures.
