Removed the 5' speakers and installed new 6,5 pioneer speakers. I wish I'd done that in the first place. 6.5 really sounds a whole lot better and fits well.
I also finally purchased a polish machine (? Not really sure what it's called ) and gave the car a proper polish and a round of wax.
HAd the front wheels rebalanced. Replaced the control arm bushings and the lower shock bushings, the bolts were frozen and had to be cut off, but the front end clunking is gone, finally. Tried to put sparkplug spacers on the rear 02 sensors to shut off the CEL light, but it turns out I bought the wrong size 14mm, I have 12mm 02 sensors and these seem to be prevalent on motorcycles these days........oh well try again another time, the car runs fine although I suspect it may be running rich
Changed new front shocks and front shock lower bushings
Shocks: Bilstein green MNA2140AC form either SNG barrat or Jaguar classic parts, cannot remember which
bushings: powerflex PFF27-403
bushings needed sligh relief cut on the collar to fit perfectly on one side
and the shocks are bit soft and floaty compared to the old red Konis with three level adjustments
and started to feel like real hobbyist stuff when temperature is less than 4 degrees of celcius and windy, especially when it starts to snow...
I couldn't find any reasonably priced speaker pods, so I made my own. I used qwikcrete cardboard tubing from Home Depot and four mdf spacers from eBay. Glued and stapled them together, then covered with fiberglass resin. Then I used 1/4 foam covered with vinyl to match the shelf tray. Not even 50 bucks all in.
I bought 4 new NTK O2 sensors hoping this cures my CEL issue. My code reader was only saying that the rear two were bad but, being the new owner of the car and not knowing when or what brand sensors are in the car currently made the decision easy.
I finally located a rear parcel shelf escutcheon at Classic Jaguar Parts. HNA 1228AA LFJ. It arrived in the oldest Jaguar package imaginable! New old stock! Now fitted.
Cool that I now know that side of the engine intimately.... not so cool that it was really stressful, took a few days and it will be a week or more of driving before I really feel confident I didn't forget or break anything.
Completed AC work . New compressor, condenser, hoses and dryer.Almost forgot those condenser rubber mounts. Mine completely turned to power, like the radiator mounts.
when i disconnected from fuel pressure regulator,i got a very fine mist on ignition on,i will replace the regulator tomorrow,and the pump next week,both have nearly 200 thousand miles on them,so,it is time.
Good enough. I'm not sure to do with mine. I have the back seat, parcel tray, and rear trunk panels out to do a stereo install. I just turned over 145,000 miles and I'm unsure of the age of the fuel pump. With everything out, I'm contemplating replacing it as a preventive maintenance item.
Replaced the lower radiator hose. Like many things, "simple but not easy." I had just replaced a heater hose 2 months ago that the guy at the parts counter called "the octopus hose." If that little heater hose was an octopus, then this hose should be called "giant hydra-b*tch." Anyway, many thanks to Aholbro1 for a detailed write-up he posted a while back.
Also replaced the cam cover gasket, plug seals, and threw in a new set of NGK plugs (the needle point electrodes are the only thing that work with my old engine).
Following the TB cleaning adventure, installed an oil catch can between the valve cover and breather connection to the intake, and plugged the smaller breather hose that branches off and connects directly to the TB behind the butterfly. Hopefully this will keep the intake tract clean of oil going forward.
Took it to a garage to check the wheel alignment. Didn't need any adjustment but discovered a bad upper ball joint in the front right side. Might try to change that myself.
Changed the power steering fluid- improved the smoothness in the steering.
And finally decided to remove the annoying clicking noise from under the skislope. Disconnected the microswitch and the solenoid plunger. Much better now but still a tiny click in the blue/black relay on the right side but I'm able to live with that. For now...
Finished up the oil separator/catch-can setup, re-glued some loose weather seals, washed the car and buffed out some paint issues using a friend's orbital (gotta get one of those!).... and washed the car, twice
