Replaced the rubber-mounts of the cooler. $5 parts, not much work. Beside the fact, that the panel needs some attention to remove the rust:

 

Im stiil pretty new at working on cars. I recently bought a 96 xj6 4.0L. And it needs a lot of work. This week i took out the ashtray and ski slope assembly so it could be replaced. It is nasty under there. Full of ashes and im guessing spilled soft drink. Im gonna have to remove the whole center console to clean everything. I noticed this sticky stuff surrounding the connector that connects the Sport Normal button. Not sure how i could clean that off. Anyone know where i could buy a new connector? I also been having trouble the front drivers side door panel from slipping down and it catches when i open the door. I removed it to install a new handle cable which i installed and i gotta say it works good but now the panel wont stay up but i put it back on today and it seems to be holding. Today i did my first oil change on it since i purchased it. That went pretty well. I also ordered a new LCM so i hope to have working LH taillights, LH license plate lights, and LH turn signal in the near future lol. I also did a OBD II scan on it and im trying to decipher all that info as we speak. As you can see theres A LOT that needs to be done with this jag but i got the patients and its been fun so far

 

what did I do today?
Not much. But it has rained here a few days, so the car looks a bit grubby (pale blue Daimler).
I had 5 spare minutes before going to work, so I washed the Asteroids alloys and tyres with Turtlewax wheel cleaner.
Old Blue looked a bit happier after that.
Then I drove a very smooth 30 miles to work and back - listened to some David Bowie on the way home in my walnut and leather sanctuary.

 

Replaced the low pressure power steering supply/suction and return (cooler to reservoir) hoses today.

Also gave it a quick wash

Changed my clockspring for no reason.
I've had the airbag light on since I bought the car and it stays solid with no flash code, my horn doesn't work also. So clockspring was my no diagnosis lazy "throw parts at it" solution to hopefully fix two problems with one part. Was a fun job though. But now I got to actually diagnose what's wrong. Must have a total disconnect in the airbag system somewhere.

then another 30 to work and back today

 

Passed my WOF (Warrant of Fitness, like an MOT), with no problems, so another 6 months of legal motoring.
Last year I failed on leaking power steering rack, which was an expensive rebuild.
The inspectors grumbled about slight front wheel bearing play, but I pointed out all 4 wheels have had new bearings in the past 2 years.

Changed last week rear shocks, and front lower bush ,
Had readings on the temp sensor ...... Would like to solve my problem (running way too rich )
It s winter there .... Lazy days ;-)

 

My sport switch connector also has the weird sticky stuff on it too. Probably residue from the original factory tape that was removed when the ski slope was taken off sometime in the past. If you need really need another connector, u-pull-it junkyards are your best friend.

 

That is the "ubiquitous" EPDM-like foam that manufacturers used for years to combat squeaks and rattles. But as you can see... that stuff eventually deteriorates over several years into the tar-like substance you are encountering. It is a PITA to clean off, but usually some mineral spirits or other light solvent will get it off. You just have to be careful that the solvent won't damage what you're removing the old foam from.

Yesterday evening I waxed the XJ6 with Surf City Barrier Reef paste wax. Glowing this morning, and beading rain already with morning showers. Rain or not, gotta keep the wax on especially during the summer.

 

changed belts & coolant hoses, fuel pump, filter, fp reg, a few relays . All in May & June. Next comes flushing brake fluid.

Collected it from the repair shop! I had an encounter with a 40tonne truck on the elevated section of the M6 motorway near Birmingham. The left-hand drive truck simply changed lanes as I was passing - huge dent in rear door, wheel arch and modified the wheel centre. I supplied a door and the painter has done a great job - perfect colour match. Now to find a wheel and get the insurance company to cough up!

 

Managed to get mine inspected, picking just the right amount of time between the "secondary air injection" CEL that pops up every couple to six months. I still need to look into that....

Drove it hard. Fun

 

Renewed engine oil & filter, rotated tires, greased the u-joints. The standard 7,500 mile stuff that comes round all too quickly! Inspected brakes, wheel bearings and checked all fluid levels.

 

Found a burnt out fuse for the cig lighter, aha, but no, new fuse, lighter still not working... Will put a new one in, lighter,that is, satnav.


And went for a nice little drive........

 

Installed the revised upper timing chain tensioner, new cam cover gaskets, new Champion RC9YCs, and oil/filter change. Sooo much quieter and smoother running now! Next up: front wheel bearings.



Finally figured out what this tray is for too, haha

 

Replaced my Hella intercooler water pump with the Bosch 002 water pump.
I realized that the intake temp sensor is not in the MAF sensor but it is actually in the intake manifold somewhere for the XJR. For the XJ6, I think it is part of the MAF sensor assembly.

My intake temps went from 220 average FREEWAY cruising to between 125/130 cruising at 55.

Finally got this problem solved after 5 months

are you saying the new intercooler waterpump alone has lowered your intake temps that much?
I think I read that the old Hella one pumps 7 gallons a minute and the Bosch pumps 11 gallons. Obviously an old Hella that has been under a hot XJR bonnet for 20 yrs may not be cranking 7 gallons a minute any more, so a new Bosch may be many times better than a tired cooked Hella one

that might make a big difference to my XJR which still has a hella
