Fitted new wheels

 

You've been busy with that car... Bodywork, custom paint, light upgrades, XJS fuel filler... now new wheels! Super pop, very stylish. Are you allowed to tint your windows in the UK? If so, that's next.

 

Mended two massive leaks on the Spruce project car: One at the engine-oil drain plug and the other at PAS cooler line at the radiator side-tank. Refit the windscreen washer bottle I'd removed to mend all four broken mounting tabs, then removed again after cracking the web at the bottom alongside the pump trying to install the hose to the pump upon re-installation. Mended that and now it is all back on and water-tight.
Re-fit the A/C belt and transferred two rubber flaps from a slightly fractured cooling fan assy I'd obtained from the Pick-N-Pull a number of months ago to the Spruce car's cooling fan assy, which was missing the two on the top left. Those little rubber **** that secure the shroud flaps absolutely DO NOT go back through the holes intact and still attached to the flaps!!!
I punched some holes where they used to be, made a few backing plates out of an old TX license plate, and riveted them on.

 

Finally got around to changing the ABS module, not fun if you got not so tiny fingers, especially when your car has traction control and the pump only moves about 3 inches. Knuckles busted, but it’s DONE

I've finally, Upgraded the sound system. Mine has been dead for a couple of years and I have been playing music on my phone. I've had the common problem with the CD stacker not talking to the head unit. Along, evidently with all the speakers basically disintegrating.
First for the Audiophile stuff.

-Alpine CDE-164EBT -Head unit.
-Alpine SPS-610C 6.5" Component Speakers time 2. Installed in the original mounts, to keep everything looking original
-Alpine PWE-S8 8-INCH powered subwoofer, mounted under the passenger seat
-Alpine PDR-F50 Amp Mounted under rivers seat.

I can't believe how great this setup sounds after being used to listening to tunes off my phone. I also wanted to keep everything looking as original as possible, which was easy enough with a little work. The head unit I chose has a variable backlight, allowing me to try and match it to dash lights and comes standard with Bluetooth and USB input

 

Helped my friend to help me in changing the motor and transmission mounts. Which was bit on tedious side with the motor mounts as there is pretty little access on things even with lift. And changed the lambdas which in other hand was easy.

One kind of wonders if the SC version is really a after thought and not actually completely through thought design ... seems some of the maintenance items that are relatively easy with naturally aspirated version are quite much PITA with the super charged one.

 

So how much does the sub it stick out from under the seat

 

That would depend on which version of seat that you have as some have more components under the seat

My Sovereign only has a couple of relays if I recall ( relay relocate option ? )

 

I like those "BBS" style wheels, retro and classic beauties. I just would hate to clean them.

 

 

I finally found all the parts and more from a local junk yard that I needed to maintain my low mile 1997 XJ6. I found two uncracked exhaust headers, intact mid pipe, OEM alternator, light switch. I got lucky, all nuts and bolts came loose easily from the junk car. I even got luckier that all nuts, bolts, O2 sensors, header exhaust, mid pipe came loose easily as well from my 1997 XJ6. I replaced the two exhaust headers, midpipe, alternator, and light switch a weekend day. Jag i snow purrs quietly.


Bonus parts included excellent condition burl wood shift knob, throttle body, emission pump, TPS sensor, and Jaguar wheel caps.

I spent the total of $144.00 for all parts.

I need to call some local junk yards to see if they have any X300s in stock. I might need a few items as well.

Drove it 208 miles in ***** weather with no problems at all.

 

If you hate cleaning wheels, any wheels, go for low dust ceramic brake pads.

 

Replaced the under floor cats yesterday, the old ones had devolved the loudest rattle imaginable, I was turning heads for all the wrong reasons. Now all nice and quiet again.

 

Yesterday I troubleshooted a weird situation on my XJR6, I noticed the stereo stayed on after switching the car off and when you locked the car with the alarm fob it gave a different chirp as if a door was still open. I then noticed the interior lights did not work. Replacing fuse 8 in the UK driver's side fuse box sorted it.

 

Set off to drive the 208 miles home at 1030 this morning.
Did 69 miles and am now waiting for the breakdown truck at 1410.
Gonna be a long day.
Suspicion falling on the TPS.

 

I have a spare in the boot just in case........

 

Or it could be the CTS.
Can you change the TPS from underneath or do you have to take the intercooler off?
