As well as rear spring on one side (see lopsided post) - with one still to go - fitted new wiper blade, changed low-beam highlight bulb and blown brake light bulb, fitted replacement steering wheel to get rid of my crusty old wheel with most of leather worn away: no more black bits on my hands on a damp morning! And its ALMOST the right colour as well!!!

I Changed my radiator today, the top hose on my original radiator had blown off a couple of times due to, the lip on the pipe it attaches to had perished. Not to complicated a job just a little time-consuming.

Spent an hour upside down in the drivers footwell, changing the cruise control module.
Didn't fix it.. Went to the pub. Luckily the pub is close so didn't need cruise control. |
Fitted new QYL ignition coils. Seems a quite a bit more power :)

i cleaned out all the junk in my boot/trunk yesterday - about 80-100kg of spare MAFs, supercharger drive pulleys, Castrol Edge packs, and 'stuff'.
the car sits 1/2" higher on the rear springs and accelerates better! Then today I dropped it off to an upholsterer for a new headliner.. I have had a lot of sag for a long time. |
Just got my car back with the new headliner. So much better, should have done it 4 years ago. No ‘before’ photo, just this ‘after’ shot....

Further to the XJR headlining replacement as per above two posts, just had the ZF 22 auto gearbox on the Daimler 6 serviced. New oil, filter and an additive to smoothe the changes, and kickdown cable backed off a bit. It is so much smoother now, money well spent, wish I’d done it 7 years ago.
I did my own oil and filter when I first bought it, multiple half oil changes which improved gearchanges a bit, but having it done by the experts is vastly better and I would recommend it. Can hardly feel the changes or the torque converter locking at 50mph |
Drove it 125 miles to look at a car.
Got offered a derisory amount for a trade in so drove it 125 miles home again. Stopped off on the way back to look at another one and got offered half of what the first one did. What is the matter with these people? Anyway, got there and back through the awful weather and rubbish roads. |
My front wheel bearing started to make a grinding noise. Ordered a new kit, and opened up the hub and the bearing just fell apart. But unfortunately the inner ring got stuck on the shaft. Googled around and saw many recommendations to apply heat or to use a grinder. I had none of these options available, so I found a tiny sharp flat bladed screwdriver and managed to hammer it behind the ring. Then I could hammer in a second and third bigger screwdriver and pry it out. In the end I used one of these hub puller tools to pull it off.

I used the instructions from Don that I found on the Jag lovers website, and it was of great help. I fitted the rubber seal onto the hub itself, but it fell off on the first attempt to fit the hub onto the shaft. Second attempt started off better, but it wasn’t quite in place. I decided to try and force it in place by fitting everything by applying force to the D washer. It seemed to work as the hub adjusted itself into place, but eventually I used too much force and I ended up destroying the threads inside the nut. So that’s where I am at the moment. Will try and find a new nut today, and hopefully it will be in place this evening. Not sure if I want to do this job again. Maybe if I can reuse the races inside the hub, and the rubber seal.. Well it’s snowing where I live this weekend, and I currently don’t have the room to do much on it, but I did a visual inspection.
Turns out I’m running low on coolant, sooooo I gotta do a coolant flush in the spring. |

Arial Mast
Changed the Arial mast today, The last time I caught it on the garage door I had ordered a new one but ended up Just shortening and refitting the old. Has Worked fine for over a year until today when it went up and fell out. Lucky I had the replacement mast.

I changed out the coolant tank today. The original got a tiny crack in it when I replaced the heater hose a few months ago, as I think I used a little too much force to get the hose onto the tank fitting. I just happened to have a spare tank from my old Vanden Plas donor from 5 years ago! We will see how that works out. It's good to be able to recycle some of those old parts.

Pulled the coils to inspect, I have alot of weird stuff going on. Might possibly be original coils, or early replacements. Still have Lucas Sticker and made in Japan on them. Every one is cracked, all of them Ohm'd out ok on the primary, but all showed open on the secondary? odd. boots were all hardened and i broke one. Dang. This car is not driveable yet, it idles and runs but after engine is up to temperature, it falls on its face and stalls at nearly any throttle opening. cant complain, scored it for 500. I live in the midwest of USA and its rare to find any vehicle nearly 25 years old that isnt badly corroded. This one could easily be saved and used as a daily driver if i can get it sorted out.
Ordered new coil set today, cam cover gasket, plug well seals and plugs. Hoping the coils fix my odd electrical problems. |
pressed the unlock button on a working remote fob, opened the door, sat in the seat, closed the door, fastened the seatbelt, put the key into the ignition and started the car
