Just got my car back with the new headliner. So much better, should have done it 4 years ago. No ‘before’ photo, just this ‘after’ shot....
Is there a headliner kit available? I think I would want to do this job myself if I can get the materials at a decent price, what's your opinion mate? Thanks.
Don't really need a kit, just 2 cans of 3M "Auto headliner and fabric adhesive" and a couple yards of 1/8" (3 mm) headliner fabric in your preferred color. Probably only "need" 1 can, but why take a chance on getting caught short?
Careful, lots of 1/4" fabric out there, but that will jam up your sunroof workings.
Search on "headliner" as there are a number of threads on it, here, along with links to suppliers
Almost forgot....and LOTS AND LOTS of single-edge razor blades. Make sure you leave 1-1.5" overhand all the way 'round the sunroof opening for the pinch-welt to grab. Nvm how I know....
aholbro1 THANKS a bunch my friend, I'll be adding this to my project list in the Spring, of course I wouldn't have to wait for the warm weather if I lived in Decatur, TX Have a great Holiday Season and stay SAFE.
Had a busy few days with the car. I replaced the exhaust manifolds which is in another post.
I cleaned the EGR temperature sensor after doing some research on a P0400 code I got some time back. It had nearly 2mm of carbon build up on it and after cleaning it up I instantly noticed the engine was a whole lot quieter. As the EGR valve is a good one from a donor car. I am hoping that solved the issue, time will tell.
I also cleaned the interior temperature sensor under the steering wheel. I was amazed at how much fluff and dust was in there. I used a paint brush to clean it up. The photos show the before and after.
Now waiting on valve cover gaskets to wrap up all engine issues for now at least.

Yeah, best to do the job when no shop-heating is required. Best recollection is that the adhesive is somewhat flammable...there is a post on the S-type forum of a headliner going up in flames......don't have a link handy, but remember seeing it....

Thanks my friend, I will certainly keep that in mind.
Cheers.
Just fitted 5 new tyres to my XJR. Went for a narrower tyre to eliminate tram-lining .

Following the report from my MOT inspectors comments with regard to corrosion at the rear end and around the suspension, and given a dry, sunny and windless day, I set too and undersealed the back end. It should be good for good for a few more years!

I had an inner sill advisory last year ,no holes tho so I cleaned off all the loose crap and used a rust converter then red oxide then hammerite then seam sealer and then underseal ,not a mention this year 👌🏻
i also injected the inner sill area with dinitrol to solve any internal rust 👌🏻
Successfully programmed a key fob off ebay for my 1996 Vanden Plas (and VERY gratified that the one I got with the car last week has a faulty red/large button which, if you put batteries into it, sets off the alarm that even the neighbors far far away could hear and be annoyed by; but useful for waking up my teenagers).
In addition to some interior cleaning, I resolved some of the little issues on the fixme list:
-Tacked up the headliner with some curly upholstery tacks, which should hold it until I do the full headliner job in nicer weather.
-Re-attached the third brake light to the rear window with double-sided molding tape.
-Tucked a bit of loose door seal back into the driver's side door.
-Extracted the non-functioning antenna assembly and took it into my warm shop for diagnosis. Unsurprisingly, that toothed flexible shaft thing had broken, so I've ordered a new mast. While I had it apart, I smoke-tested the motor by unplugging it from the circuit board and briefly giving it 12VDC. Worked fine in both directions.
