On your trans mission connector most likely it is from above on the back edge of the valve cover gasket

Love the previous post, very pretty!

I finally repaired the headliner on my ‘96. It only took driving around w/o a headliner for 2yrs for me to get it fixed.

there’s an o-ring behind it you have to take the valve body to get to it. i think the connector cracks too

go ask on the bmw forums some people know what to do

The transmission you have is a ZF4HP24 for your 4.0 Jaguar engine also used on BMW engine drivetrains

ZF4HP22 ( same mechanicals but not transmission ECU controlled from my understanding ) is used on the Jaguar 3.2 engine for a cross reference that information can be obtained

pdfc-4hp24-22.pdf (zf.com)

O - ring item # 27 . 922 ?

Any common rubber o - ring should work in my opinion

The connector comes off be pulling straight back and only then rotate it . large tiewraps help

Is that suede? Did you reuse the old headliner or new?

The valve cover cannot really be repainted because it's magnesium. You can try respraying the outside of the cover but absolutely do not spray the inside.

of course not the inside. But the outside has cracked/peeling and missing paint.

It’s some suede like material. I just went to a local upholstery shop and picked something a on the upper middle of the spectrum of materials they had. I think it was around $250 for the headliner and sunroof (I brought the parts to them out of the car).

I reused the original parts. Removing the headliner was one of the first things I did after buying the car. I read others being able to get it out w/o folding, but I couldn’t figure it out. So, I carefully folded it by hand and pulled it out.

My procrastination did pay off in one respect though. The car had a small nick in the windshield that decided to spread vertically across the windshield about a year ago. This gave me the opportunity to put the headliner in with the windshield out while being replaced. The windshield place was kind enough to do that for me. I just had to secure it well enough to drive home to finish the install. This worked well. I really wouldn’t want to try folding a newly covered headliner, but maybe it’s no big deal.

Daniel

Really???? Jaguar made the valve cover from magnesium? That’s shocking if true, at least to me.

And you found one in TURQUOISE! So rare, so awesome. Play nice, kitties! They should probably be allowed to get to know each other nose-to-tail (pipe) as well.

Be sure to give Ruby her due attention so she stays happy with the new arrangement!

Congratulations. You're winning at life.

I want one too...........

I am in the middle of repairing and restoring my cam cover atm. had to go to the extent of stripping all the way back by hand, repairing some corrosion holes and blah blah blah.

Put a nice chrome jaguar on my passengers side air bag trim.
put a nice custom silver decal on my coil cover trim to replace the 4.0L that was green to match the colour scheme.

Replaced front and rear exhaust manifolds on the silver 1995 XJ6; nice to have done that process for the first time with only one near-fatal error of cross threading one of the O2 sensors (downstream of Cat). Car seems to run more smoothly, even if only in my imagination. Thankful for the desert climate - PB blaster and elbow grease and no broken studs or rounded nuts.

Cleaned the O2 sensors while the space was more open, did a little engine cleaning with Griot's degreaser. Also, visited CDMA last week and got treated to a full tour of the 1997 XJL that he has had for 20 years and I think was featured in his "washed the cat" posts a page or two back on this thread - inspiring . Shout out to Parker 7 for general moral support...

Next project is dropping the front suspension and doing a full bushing replacement... maybe January.

new parts ready to go in (copper nuts for the new studs, donut gaskets, thick gaskets from PartsGeek, also had the surface of the replacement manifolds machined flat by a local machine shop)

everything off, cleaned, new gaskets on

Everything back on! Now I know why if you do one manifold, you might as well do both... took a break before the careful torquing
