As it turned out the cable for right side of the screen is too short, I'll have to add approx 50cm of speakers cable to extend it and get to the socket but that's easier than removing the dash

Thanks so much, but this last part above is what I am asking about, where & how the right side half of the harness routes. But I still can't tell for certain how you routed it, but it looks like you may have routed it inside the engine compartment on the outside of the firewall?
For the right side of the harness, did the harness route inside the dashboard then out the right side of the firewall as stock, or did both the left and right side feed out the left side firewall grommet (as you have done) and feed to the right through the engine bay along the outside of the firewall?
'both the left and right side feed out the left side firewall grommet (as you have done) and feed to the right through the engine bay along the outside of the firewall' - that is correct, that's how I've done it. There is no other way to do it, unless you have the dash out completely, then I guess you could feed the right side differently.
The extra XJ8 harness mentioned here is to short for the right side feed as it is and this side needs to be extended by approx 50cm to reach the right side screen plug along the firewall in the engine bay.
Hope this helps!
To answer the question of where the wiring goes, here is a photo with the blower removed. The blue relays attach to a bracket ( removed here) and follows the cabin harness upward. The cabin harness eventually goes up the A pillar to the sunroof and garage door opener. There is an opening in the firewall insulation and the heated windshield harness goes through the firewall there, just under the power cables.
Obviously much easier to see with everything removed!
