Default What transmission do I have

I need to get the filter on my transmission changed. I have called around to a few repair shops (I could do it but don't want to and if I did still need to know which one), and they are telling me that there are 4 different transmissions that were installed in this car. I did not think that was possible but I looked up on a VIN decoder, and it does not say which one is in the car. Is there a way to tell with the VIN or somewhere else on the care that provides that

Some non-USA cars had manual transmissions.
The Supercharged 4.0 and the V12 cars used the GM 4L80E
Regular 4.0 cars had a ZF trans, with electric shift
Cars with the 3.2 had a ZF trans without electric shift

Having a brain fade on the exact ZF model numbers but others will chime in

Cheers

After doing a little research, I assume I have either the ZF 4HP22 OR 4HP24. I THINK the 24 is used for the 3.2 model

ZF4HP24 for the 4.0-liter X300 normally aspirated

Used on large BMWs around that model year

The 4HP22 is hydraulically controlled, the 4HP24 is electronic. The 4HP24 is the one in the 4.0 cars.

ALL North America 4.0 X300 sedans use the ZF 4HP24 gearbox!

The drain plug and line fitting are most likely to be very stuck so a penetrating spray days before may help

consider not removing the drain plug but remove whole pan least messing up the plug threads

I have yet to do the job
