Default Whats this wire??

I was re wrapping the wiring loom on the right side of the trunk when I came across this cut wire. It seems to have been cut long before I purchased the car. The wire is Orange and brown. Past the point of the cut there is no matching end.

Was there at somepoint a connector attached that was not used, and got cut off?

The wire you are referring to is a thick Brown/Orange wire which I believe should be going into the 3 way black connector in your photo.
This is the trunk accessory connector with a thick White/light green wire & a black earth wire.
The wire originates from Fuse 13 & being brown in colour indicates it is live from the battery (No ignition switch control) The White/light green wire at the connector is fed from the Accessory relay & it is Aux/Ign switch controlled.
It definitely needs to be capped due to its live state or reconnected into the black connector.
Fuse 13 supplies live power to -
: Accessory relay
: Trunk accessory connector (shown in your photo)
: Cabin accessory connector
as shown on the attached diagram "Accessory connections"
If the wire does not belong to the trunk connector it could be the brown/orange wire running through to the cabin accessory connector situated behind the kickpad in the front left footwell.

Thank you John.

I will check tonight, and if it is live as you sugested I will see if I can reattach. If I cannot do that I will cap it off.

Cheers

Ian,
To "reattach" you'll need to crimp a female blade terminal onto the wire and insert it into the back of the connector. You'll probably find the original terminal still in there as they don't come out easily once they are in there. Hopefully the black wire connector is still in there so you'll know which location in the connector the orange wire goes.

To get the old terminal out you'll need a very fine jewellers style screwdriver or purpose made tool to release the clip that holds the terminal inside the plastic connector.

Ok.

As It is not used I may just insulate it and cap it off.
Cheers

Just as a note. I purchased my Sumitomo connectors from Amazon. The only difference is a small key inside the female socket that can swiftly be dispatched with an exact knife
