Why do you like your Jag?
#21
My first Jag was a 1970 E-Type FHC. I still own it. Since then I’ve added a 62 E-Tye OTS and, just recently, a 96 X300.
My first car was a very decrepit MGB but when I switched to ‘modern cars that British ‘thing’ was sorely missed. The Es have been stored for years and ‘Etta’ (the FHC) is just about finished being completely restored. Having driven a number of other cars in the intervening years, ‘Grace’, the X300 is a welcome return to grand motoring.
It is a pleasure and privilege to have the very best of Grace, Space, and Pace!

Most of it has been said already, but it is because I get noticed. I have been offered 32K cash for my 1997 Jaguar XJ6L, and I turned them down. I will be buried in it. Also, short story, driving down a main business road in Albuquerque with my brother. We are stopped at a light with the windows down, enjoying one of the last warm fall days. A red 1969 Porsche Carrera in primo condition pulled up looks over and told me that he had been following me and would like to know what year, and some of the usual question Ford or Jaguar........ and he proceeded to tell me that it was a beautiful car. When I take her out on the weekends, I hear that from multiple people.

It's nice to see a thread that is positive about our cars. That's the reason that we have them, because we like them. I think my '97 is just the most beautiful sedan ever. I had been a Cadillac fan all my life, owned many before my XJ6. I have to say that they do not measure up to the Jag either inside or out. The classic models are really special, there's nothing else like them.

No one knows that my X300 is actually an X305! Only hints are by the XJ12 badge and a small V12 badge on the B pillars. Once I told someone who was asking about the car that it has the last gen V12. He wanted to see and took a picture of the engine! Can't say I blame him. In my opinion this engine is a perfect match for the car.
Mike M The X300 must seem roomy compared to the E-type! That 62 OTS must be one of the most valuable classics Jags these days.

I’ve always been an I6 guy, having owned a MKIII and MKIV Supra, E36 M3, and E34 M5. What I found was all these vehicles were a compromise between ultimate performance and comfort. I’m not one for compromise.
After scratching the bug for performance with a Caterham, I needed the polar opposite. I also have zero appreciation for most of the technology that has been added to cars over the last few decades. NVH improvements are probably the main exception to that.
Bringing that together:
- I6
- Comfortable
- Good NVH
- No useless tech
The X300 fits this very nicely. It’s also relatively easy to work on with well matured tech (true for most 90’s cars). I probably will sound like my fathers generation when they talked about the good old days of 60’s American muscle, but the 90’s were a golden era of cars.

Jaguar couldn't make the Daimler Corsica because its looks would have killed sales of the last gen XJS! It also would have hindered the rollout of the XK8. The XK8 had to be made extra curvy to try to out-sexy the X300.
Imagine the desirability of the Corsica nowadays. Big money if a limited edition.
Does anyone want to chop the roof off their car? I almost want to whenever I see the Corsica. It would be tough to get it to the factory level, but probably doable. Plus, no more sunroof problems....

Seats!
Well today I finally addressed my leather seats. My interior leather is Oatmeal and I found a tan leather seat on EBay for the driver side (mine is ripped up).
I also found a rear seat deck with perfect tan leather.
Then I found a guy that could dye the tan leather to match the oatmeal.
And while he was at it he refurbished the passenger seat and door handles.
Finally a like new interior again!

People will stop and ask me about my Jag. I keep it clean and paint is perfect.
People always tell me it's a beautiful car.
When I took it in to have an oil change the service guy called out to everyone in the shop.
They all gathered around my 1995 XJ6 and admired how clean it was including the engine bay.
