Default Just an update......

Regarding any queries for parts offered, Friday got away from me when I planned to sort out postage costs, but I will be doing this tomorrow and will let the relevant people know.

Indeed this is a sad situation. I feel very bad for you having to do this! Seems it would be like taking your old dog to the vet for euthanasia. A Certificate of Destruction?? How cold hearted can they get? I retired and parted one of mine and it was painful. But I took solace that many parts were saved for future use, and many of the parts are in use now. I suppose there is quite a lot of metal in our X300s that will end up recycled. Still, I can't imagine what that last drive must have been like for you. Condolences, my friend.

I can say that if road taxes here were like there, I would not be driving an X300 either. We are fortunate here to be able to keep ours on the road without such taxes or strict inspections.

So now you are having fun in the XF and that is Sogood!

Hi Sleek and thanks for the kind words. Your analogy is spot on and in fact it's just what I said to my good woman at the time. It was like bringing an old faithful Labrador to be put down. Even my woman, who's German and quite pragmatic, suggested that overnight my car might have sat at the breakers, awaiting my return to bring her back home, fretting at my absence. Are we crazy or what??

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the XF but doubt that I'll ever develop quite the same relationship with her as I did with the XJ. We can thank our punitive motor tax system for this!

Hi, got your pm thanks. Radio will be going in the post tomorrow, tracked and insured. I'll pm you the tracking details as soon as I have them. Also, the radio code is packed with the radio.

Hi Alec. The radio is all packed up and ready to go but for the life of me, I can't find your postal address. Did you send it to me? I went through the thread and through my PM's, of which there were quite a few, but no joy. Maybe I'm just getting old! If you forward the details the radio will be on it's way to you by return.

Thanks and apologies.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but if we had road fees/taxes that high and arbitrarily tied to engine displacement and efficiency we'd be in a similar situation as that cost becomes unsustainable for the average owner.... especially if the car also suffers from issues like terminal corrosion.

If you end up with one of the tool kits still available, let me know. We didn't get those in the USA it seems, so it would be neat to get one, although they aren't terribly useful in reality

so good, The radio has landed. It was very well packed! Many, many thanks again. I hope you continue your adventures with your new Jaguar. Can I also say that in my younger days I did quite a bit of walking, including the Ring of Kerry. Beautiful, even in the rain! Alec Gurney.

Thanks for the update, enjoy your new sounds! I moved to Kerry from Dublin 15 years ago, prompted in large by the magical scenery and wonderful driving roads. I should have done it much sooner. And today we didn't have any rain! Who'd have guessed?

Default Tool tray made it to America.

My tool tray came today.

Had a small hole in the package and there is wrench in some delivery guys truck now.

But every thing else looks great!!

Can some one tell me what size that wrench is? I may have one that works already. Or does some one have a spare?

Thanks again for the parts. Will post a pic installed.

Small wrench awol.

Well, who'd have guessed!! Glad to see it finally arrived and is in situ. Did you check the wrapping for the small spanner? I think it was a 10mm and was an original Jaguar stamped item. Still, half a loaf is better than no bread!

Thanks for the update and enjoy!

Just an update re; the XF. I'm loving it!! I feel so much at home every time I slide inside. I love the exhaust note, the response, the road hugging drive. I love the clean, simple, uncluttered interior. I love the fuel economy and the road tax!!
I recently drove an almost brand new Skoda and found it to be extremely fussy inside, with unnecessary embellishments everywhere. Overall aesthetics was very poor, switches were fiddly, tiny and bits of "chrome" trim were everywhere. It's true that less is more. The drive was harsh by comparison and a good deal noisier. But that's just one comparison and probably not a fair one.

A very happy camper. And a reminder that I still have a donor 3.2 with lots of parts up for grabs. Pay the postage and it's yours. And a big shout out to all of you who are keeping the beautiful X300's on the road.
