WOW that is incredible! What a lucky find! How is she running? You are now the caretaker of this wild Jaguar and there will be a lot of interest and support from this forum. So start polishing!

Surprised that not everything is melted on the right side of the engine. Or is it??

What an awesome car.

I haven’t had a proper run in as yet but there’s some power there, oil change first as it hasn’t been on the road since 2011, luckily it’s been kept in a garage so it seems pretty solid, the left hand rear wheel arch is the only area that needs work so once it’s been for a pre mot inspection I’ll get it booked in for repair, I gave the car a bit of a clean yesterday and found a rather neat little toolbox under the bonnet full other than a couple of bulbs, the pre mot inspection will hopefully confirm that it’s worth the arch repair and fingers crossed I haven’t spent too much on it as it was a difficult car to price, there doesn’t seem to be many of these cars around.

Not that it applies to your great find, but I did find an article that talks about the XJ40 version which has some interesting info on the company.
Once road worth I bet the Jaguar magazines will be all over you to write about this amazing car!

That’s a very interesting read and thanks for posting, I can’t seem to find any information about the exact model, the chap I had the car off said it was the chairman from paramount performance personal car, apparently it has cosworth pistons and 375 hp which the badges do state, fingers crossed the arch repair and any possible repairs for mot don’t outweigh it’s
actual worth, have any of these cars sold recently ? I can’t see any other than a silver car that was rather expensive.
Thanks again, Geoff

There is a video from when top gear tested the next version after yours that has been bored to 4.2
It will be well worth getting it fixed up as I think a lot of people would pay a LOT of money for that, very well found.

Default Value

So the mot was not as bad as I had thought, 10 years off road and just a few fairly simple fixes, rear arches are expensive to replace so I’m unsure to proceed without knowing the car’s value once finished, what is it actually worth?
Any help would be appreciated
thanks, Geoff

You are not that far from Nottingham and David Marks garage.
I would contact him for a quote on the wheel arch repairs, and, being a fan, and an expert (plus a owner) for the manual XJR6 he would be able to give you advise for your very extra special turbo manual.

He has done work for the JDHT and is a JEC advisor and I have had a lot of work done there in his attached body shop, which did excellent repair work on my XJR6.

That’s brilliant, I’ll give them a call in the morning, I’ve had a quote to replace and repair the rear arches today, fairly pricey but I’ve had work done by them before, the engine does need a tune and sort the emissions but after 10 years off the road it nearly passed!! Sounds like a specialist place could sort everything under 1 roof.
thanks for the advice

Default Too busy

Sadly David Marks garage is a very busy place and with a 2 month wait at least, it would appear that the cars rarity does nothing for its value, it would be a shame to break it up.

Such a shame he is so busy, but I guess that is the after effect of all the lockdowns.
I will respectfully disagree over the value and say it worth a lot more as possibly a one off by a respected tuning company.
8 years ago the asking price (don’t know the selling price) for the XJ40 version was more then double a standard car.

If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of bull park figure did you pay for it?

I would contact the editor via email of Jaguar World, as this is just the sort of story they would love to run. Send them pictures of the engine and see what happens

Have found pictures from the XJ40 brochure, which is interesting reading. You need to click on each picture in turn.

I will keep looking as I am intrigued by this car!

That add is from the time when XJ40 prices were rock bottom, you'd struggle to buy a decent one for £5k now and Chasseur with that mileage is probably double that. That said, X300 are rock bottom at the moment, so I suppose £5k wouldn't be far from an imaginary price. You can get a Daimler Six for approx £3k at the moment, Chasseur would definitely fetch more than that.
As for arches, panels are £50 a side and widely available, I had mine done few years back along with a scraped rear bumper and seals repainted for ~£500 so just two rear arches wouldn't be much more than that. Breaking it would be sacrilege. That's one of the rarest Jaguars out there and they are brilliant fun. If you ever decide to part ways with it, PM me
Body wise I'd be more concerned with the front sills and toeboards - that's normally first thing to go and generally much more difficult to fix than rear arches, frankly if it wasn't for insurance paying for it last time, I'd do it myself.

Hi Geoff, you spoke to me on ebay about some parts a while back.
it’s nice to see some pics of the car. interesting that it looks complete standard on the outside, besides the badging.

Hello all. I bought the car. It’s in safe hands.
Thanks to Geoff, a true Gentleman from start to finish.

I have started work on the car already, tidying up a few things/ replacing missing/ broken parts, Alternator belt adjusted to calm the squeal on start up, a basic clean, replaced the chrome gear knob with the standard 5 speed knob (which was in the cubby box!)
there’s plenty to do as always, but it’s a good starting point.

Theres already a 4.0 Sport Manual, XJR6 Manual & XJ40 XJR Manual here. So it’s got worthy stable mates.

Well done Naki,
This is definitely a car to keep in your collection. I'm only sorry I didn't see this thread sooner, otherwise it might have joined my collection.
