X300 loud GROAN on cold start

Hi all,
I have read the other thread about rattles and squeals and think my noise is slightly different.
On a cold start of late, there is a very loud groan which almost seems to gurgle?? This disappears after driving for a while. It is very noisy and i'm not sure if it seems more evident when I turn the wheel slowly or break to a stop.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Some sort of air pocket in the cooling system or power steering system? Just a wild guess. Has either been opened up recently?
The older V12 Jags were known to groan when cold...it was from the cooling system.
Decades ago GM had some models that required revised power steering pipes due to a groan from the harmonics of fluid flow.
I had an Oldsmobile that groaned when I changed the routing of the heater hoses. I hadn't relaized what I had done and was stumped for a couple days! Very strange.
Hopefully others will chime in with some solid advice.
Cheers

I agree with Doug, sounds fluid related, is your PS pump belt fully adjusted, correct fluid and all that?
It would help the guys if you could isolate what part of the engine bay it seems to be coming from.

Hi all,
Just listened there. Initially it sounded like it was coming from the picture below. At the front of the engine. after a while it seemed to me like at was remaining as a whine/possible rattle under the engine casing.
EDIT: Just opened the power steering resivour. It spretty much empty. a tiny bit of fluid on the stick . Can I just top it up or is it too late???
have no mechanic skills whatsoever, so I am trying to diagnose as best as I can before getting a mechanic.

I was about to respond that it could be the Secondary Air Injection pump, located just above the alternator. This runs for about 30 seconds after initial engine startup. Mine groans on startup, but the groan goes away before I even drive away.
I mention this now, since someone else might have a groaning noise and it turns out to *not* be a lack of power-steering fluid.
